Hey guys. I've gotten into recording lately and I want to buy a Shure SM57 or SM58 mic or one like it (I hear beta 57a is good?) for vocals. I know they're not perfect for studio vocals but I'm looking for something cheap and versatile. I saw like 6 of them on Craigslist last month but not lately. Thought maybe someone on here might have an extra one possibly. Let me know if you want to get rid of one!

Like the Man Sez! There is a new one for $47 at the top of the list...
And he had 10 of them when I posted this, so he probably still has some.

Serge, assuming this isn't a scammer (given their zero feedback) you might want to also pick up a 57 from him. The 58's are good for vocals, but the 57's are better for recording acoustic guitars.

As you may already know, with such low feedback he cannot spend the money until you receive the item and leave feedback (or 21 days) providing you pay with PayPal. But caution is always good.

(see what happens when I type with one finger, better late than never)

Yeah, the "scammer" part entered my mind, which is why I only ordered the one. I actually was looking for a good vocal mic, the 3 other mics I have are better suited for instruments. We'll see what happens..

I'm sort of wary to buy a cheap one on ebay since there a lot of scams with those mics, right? Fake ones from china or something.

Pawn shop. They will usually have something you can plug it into to try it.

Actually, there are some real values in Chinese mic's... but that wasn't your point.

You might be happier with an inexpensive condenser mic for recording your guitar. Don't get me wrong, I haven't been without an sm57 for 35 years, but for recording acoustic, there are inexpensive condenser mic's that will give you more detail and a broader frequency range than the sm 57 or 58.

I have a Studio Projects elcheapo that I love on my adamas. I choose it over other more known/costly mics I have.
I have a small diaphram MXL 603 Mogami that is killer on violin/mando/small bodied guitars... and it was like 70 bucks. (I have shock mounts that cost double that).

Anyway, just some thoughts to confuse you further.

good luck-

I'm actually looking for something to use for studio vocals on the cheap. I found a Shure Beta 57a on CL so I might snag that. [= Good luck with the ebay SM58s, people!

Thanks anyway.
