Another early 2 knobber - from the back plate it's probably in the low hundred series and with CHK sig. Seller (pawn shop) says electronics don't work, but that could just be a dead battery. Even so, updated electronics are an easy get & fix.

There's nothing wrong with those knobs - those are the original "dot" knobs. They switched to the numbered ones later. The factory (or you) can certainly replace the electronics if it's really needed (I still think it's just a dead battery), but I would keep the knobs for historical accuracy.

Presently at $560! Wow! Broken or not ... yeah, Wolfie, one wouldn't want to change the knobs on that one ...

"The Tuning knobs also need to be replace" -- he may be referring to the "tuning machines" and not the volume/tone knob.

Of course he's talking about the tuner knobs/buttons and not the volume/tone knobs...

If anyone here winds up with this guitar I have 3 or 4 sets of gold tuner buttons I'm not using; welcome to a set.

I've got to start perusing the local pawn shops from time to time. Never have but it seems they end up with some interesting instruments from time to time...

Yeah, I got it. G8r, let me see what is really wrong with the axe, and maybe then I'll ask you about the tuning keys. Even for a thou, I feel pretty good about it; now, I have to unload my CL before the spousal unit developes another attitude. Thanks guys.

Excellent grab! I halfway thought about trying for it and selling off my slightly newer one if I'd gotten it. Glad for you I blew it off.

Attitudes come and go. My SWMBO limits me to 6 guitars (I have 12 currently, another 2 possibly on the way in the coming weeks). First thing you do, change the battery. I'll bet that's the reason the seller said the electronics aren't working. If they really are fried, you can order a new one from Mother - the updated design they used for the re-issues is supposed to be better anyway. And let me know about the tuning buttons.

Thanks guys. I've always loved the OFC, but I've never really been a "player". This will be the 6th Ovation in the house (10 total in the last few years) and I've loved every one. That Adamas (and I don't know what 235-98 really means) will go well with my Thunderhead and nylon, et al. Now if I could just get that solid-body 12-string.... I may consider myself in the club. Things are a "little" barren out here in El Paso, so thanks.

Mike, you're gonna love it. BTW, 235-98 means it's the 235th one made, and the resonant frequency of the top is 98Hz.
