Hello All...I'm putting my Adamas 1885-NB2 up for sale. I bought this guitar for an incredible musician in the 90's...it was his favorite O/A...he only had it a year before he passed away. It's in very good shape, but it does have some scratches on the back of the neck...I don't know what from, but will assume a capo..other than that it's beautiful..I took the strings off (they were only 12 years old) but will include a set of EXP38's. I've had it plugged in, and the preamp works just fine. I've got lots of pics, and have tried my best to point out any flaws on the guitar and case. It will only be offered here, it will never go to Ebay, as I would like someone who is as passionate about Adamas/Ovation as Lucas was. I'm asking $1500 + shipping. Here's where all the pictures are:
ning

And here are a few images to whet your wistle:

Any questions, I'll try to answer..
Thanks for looking.

Don't worry about the pics size, just 6 too many strings... ;)

Dweezil, just put 6 strings on it and consider it a wide neck!

It's been done before. The top may be a bit less responsive, given it's braced for 12 strings, but cut a new nut and it's playable.

No, I was serious. TAFKAR mentioned the slight downside.....but if you are looking for a red 1881 this wouldn't be a bad way to go....and it could always be converted back and sold if in the future you found a true 6.

Putting 6 strings on a 12 string guitar is not uncommon.

IMHO, that seems like a poor way to treat such a nice Adamas 12, and an inadequate substitute for a similar Adamas 6.

(That's probably because I really love 12'ers, and overall there are less of them around, so I personally don't like to see 12-strings not living up to their full potential…)

… just my 2¢…

You could even cut the headstock down above the 3rd holes and carve it into an ovation lip.

I think someone here said that that's what the NB2 stands for...non-burst red...When I bought it I was told it was 1 of 3 made for Melissa Etheridge...A nice bit of BS, and marketing spoo'. at the time,IMO....and Jerome has one on his site, without the NB designation...someone here also mentioned that it got the NB designation when it was made during the years they made the bursts...

These are great guitars...esp. when plugged in. I had one in the late 90's and it worked well for the praise band I was in at the time...they came in several colors: black and red and even a teal. Solid colors not bursts and they are fairly uncommon. TnT has a black one like the one I used to have and it is one of his favorite guitars. Also I remember Al saying these are one of his favorite's as well. I reluctantly passed on this (thanks Rene' for the chance). Someone will have a great 12 string Adamas for a very fair price.

thanks MM...when I had a friend plug it in and play it..with 12 year old strings...it was wonderful to hear it's sound again...if I knew how to play anything other than a D chord, I'd be keeping it...but it deserves someone who will play it and appreciate it to it's fullest.

Seems like the red ones are more rare than the others. I sold my 6 string version to Arnaud in France and it is his favorite guitar.

I wonder if he knows about this one? He might like it for a twin!

yes, the solid reds do seem a lot more rare...I think it would like France very much...I like France, maybe I should take it on a wine tasting trip. :p

rare? very rare...

as to the 6-string, note that there were no -2's made in the production run.

only in a special order of 1687 reissues to be sent to ? Germany was four -2's made.

What's an NB2-5? I thought they were named ...

NB2 (non burst red)
NB5 (non burst black)
NB8 (non burst blue)

Tony I think you're confusing the 1687's. There were in deed some production 1885 and 1881 Adamas II's done in NB2 finish, but not many.

-2 or NB2,just referring to the fact that there are more cream/celery -7's and blue -8's than other finishes (flat or burst)...I don't follow eBay unless I am looking for a particular model but I haven't seen that many.

Reference to the reissue is that 'red' was not considered for the primary run of the 1687 reissues. I have to believe the -2 was at the end of the reissue run and considered a special order.

In fact, when the 47RI came out, there were comments of why red...of course, we found out that Charle's favorite slothead was no. 47 which is red. The reissue was the 30th Anniv. of Adamas. In my case, the red grows on you...

At least it makes for a good marketing story.

I always liked the red (in small doses).
