Location: Texas | This 2005 Collings D1 VSB guitar is in mint condition ((( easily a 10 ))).
It was custom ordered with the following options in addition to the standard D1 specs: ((( Sitka spruce top, Honduras mahogany back and sides and neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, tortoise binding ))) Brazillian rosewood peghead overlay, Waverly nickel open back tuners, 1 3/4 nut width, āVā neck profile and bridge spacing, neck volute ((( like D-28 style ))), and sunburst finish. It also has fossilized ivory strap buttons, and comes with the original Geib case, which is also in excellent condition.
I purchased it about a year ago from the original owner (who had custom ordered it through Cotten Music in Nashville).
It's loud, clear, and powerful. A great flatpicker and marvelous fingerpicker.
Having spent a bit of time with this instrument, I can tell you that it is a monster. It has a great all-around sound, surprising volume, very nice to play and especially easy on the eyes. In fact, the burst and top are better looking in person than in the photos. It is simply gorgeous! The best burst I have seen on any Collings model.
$3,500 plus shipping.

| Collings sure do great bursts. And as nice as these pictures are, they can't do the actual burst justice. Too bad I'm not looking for a D.
Best of luck with the sale. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | All kidding aside, you will be hard pressed to find a better dread than this one. With all due respect to Ovation (after all this is a FAN club) you can go through many, many Ovation models in search of the holy grail and will come to the realization that almost ALL ovations are really good and they fall in a pretty nice bandwidth of performance which makes them a safe buy. But holy grail they are not and there's a BIG world of great sounding guitars out there and a Collings D1 Dread is on the very narrow part of the pyramid. If my Collings dread thirst was not already satiated I would be ALL over this one before Serge realizes he erred on the low price side. |

Location: SoCal | I have been at Buffalo Brothers in Carlsbad three times in the last five to six weeks. Check out their site. How about a mandolin for $12,500?
Only guitar store that I know of that has a rooster on their roof.
This is a nicer sunburst than what I saw in their inventory, and better priced.
I'm thinking... |
