Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I originally had this beauty advertised in a thread with two other guitars. Since those others have sold, I thought I would start a new thread for this one with more pictures and a broader description. (Couldn’t hurt, right?)
Anyway, I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen one of these for sale before in such pristine condition. It’s a 1659 Ovation Custom Legend and is in better condition than any 25+ year-old guitar has any right to be. These things are TOUGH to find! To find one this clean is nearly impossible!
The guitar has a beautiful, elegant appearance matched only by the balanced tone that seems to just ring from the depths. It’s an acoustic-electric, non-cutaway, 14-fret-to-the-body, 12-string hand-held PIANO! I kid you not---this things sounds like an orchestra!
The finish has started to “amber” up just enough to give the guitar that vintage look. This is elegantly set off by the carved bridge. It has abalone all around the top and the fret board is bound in ivory with more abalone inlaid everywhere. And did I mention abalone? The sound hole is completely trimmed out in it as well. One of my favorite aesthetic features on this instrument is the grain of the walnut overlaying the headstock. I'll tell ya, changing strings on a 12'er is bad enough, but it takes a little longer when you keep finding yourself just standing there, string winder motionless in your hand, staring at the striking figuring in this little piece of wood. No doubt about it, this instrument is gorgeous in pictures, but it is stunning in person.
When I bought the guitar less than two years ago, I took it to the Ovation factory and left it with them for its 30-year tune up. It was cleaned and polished and set up to play like butter. No other work needed doing or I would have had it done.
It comes with a nearly spotless hard shell case that I ordered from the factory when I purchased it.; one of the newer ones, with the leather wrapped handle and plusher (Is that a word?) interior. I originally was asking for $1100 shipped, and actually considered that pretty cheap for this one. But now I’ll ship it in the Continental US for $1025. I will ship international, but request a shipping quote.
Just a trivia note about the pictures: Yes, the ones of the guitar standing in the rustic doorway are from the loading dock at the Ovation factory. Lemme hear from you folks!

Location: Burbank | Hey Patch that is beautiful. I would love to have that. If you can do $10 a month until I pay it off, I'm in!
Seriously I may look into moving a couple things. If I do I will check back with you. |

Location: SoCal | I have one just like it in dark sunburst. One of my slothead 1658's is natural.
This is a good price...when I bought the 1658, it was a 17 minute listing as I took the BIN option. Seller already had contact from several overseas buyers. |
