Here we have a relatively rare Adamas II, model 1881-NB5 for sale. This is definitely not your average Super shallow bowl. Acoustically, it has a surprising punch that works just fine when practicing or just jamming a little. But it truly shines when performing plugged in. (Then again, don’t all Adamas?) But combining the tone, with the pre-amp (The excellent Optima), the SSB, and the textured carbon fiber top yields the best of ALL worlds as a gigging guitar. It sounds great under any circumstances, has an appearance that dares you to look away, and is sturdy enough to take all but the worst abuse. What do you want? It’s an Adamas, and it’s a fantastic instrument!

The action is set nice and low and it intones well all the way up the neck. However, it does look like all the shims have been pulled. (Hence the low action I suppose.) It is an easy player and just as easy on the ears. The frets show only minor wear and have tons of life left in them. One of the easiest-ever-to-remember serial numbers, 12341, dates it to 1996.

It is in VERY good shape overall, though it’s definitely been played. It has some very slight scratching on the back, and the fretboard shows some wear as if it were just beginning to groove in spots. I can’t actually feel any grooving though, it just looks a little worn.

The usual specs? Here you go: It has a 1st generation textured top with the rope-look Adamas body binding, and Adamas Fan scalloped bracing. The scale length is 25 1/4 ". the Walnut fretboard is inlaid with Maple and the bridge is a matching Walnut. The nutwidth is 1 11/16 ", and the tuners are Gold Schallers. The neck is Mahogany / maple, and the headstock veneer is satin walnut. Even the hand-written label (This is #85) stands out. A little trivia that I had to look up; It turns out that the odd-looking (to me anyway) color code NB5 means “No Burst-5 (black).” I don’t know why, but I find that interesting for some reason.

It comes with the case it came in which actually appears to be a mid-bowl 9158. The case is also in excellent shape and the guitar seems to have done fine in its roomy home over the years. I would like to shoot for $1350 shipped, but I’m open to offers as well. If you ever wanted one of the best performance instruments on the planet, here’s your chance. Let me know what you think everyone. And don’t be afraid to make an offer!

Jukebox Joe needs this one and MWoody's matching 1885 12-string.... those two as a matched pair should cure him of his "T" habit pretty well. :p

I miss my 1885 :( it's still in the family somewhere tho..

Regards, and good luck with the sale Patch!

I love mine and would be hard pressed to get rid of it. These are great (and comfortable to play) guitars.

Best of luck with the sale!

All PM's are responded to.

Just for those who are wondering, I'm not in a position where I can take trades at the moment as I've got some projects coming due over the next two months at the factory as well as another high-end model I'm stalking, and I need to pay for them. If I did take a trade, I'd just have to flip it anyway.

That being said, I'm willing to take a deposit and let a member pay as they can. This provides some time for them to sell whatever they originally deemed tradeable and keep this one reserved. Does that help? :)

I don't have a "T" habit. I have a "T" addiction.

Awesome guitar, I had a 1881 in NB5 finish but stupidly sold it. It was my favourite Adamas.
I would grab this one Patch but I have to pay for the repair work to my Fylde Classical, now that promises to be a truely tasty guitar.

I would bite your arms off if this had an ebony fingerboard (I know, not standard issue but I have a dream!).

Now I know there are some SSB naysayers but for me this makes an ideal practise guitar yet plugged in it has that "Adrian Legg zing" that blows me away!

Nice pics too as usual ;)

OK, I just took a bit of a soaking on my Custom Legend, so I'm a little wary of moving this to Ebay right now. Anyone interested here at all? You might be surprised what I'm willing to say yes to. :)

Well, I guess Adamii aren't for everyone. Things didn't quite work out this time, so it's FOR SALE again. Same terms, same everything. Someone jump please, my guitar fund is suddenly much lower than I thought it was, and mothership may call any day now!

Quickly, is the 85 on the label the sequence in which this one was made in 1996 or the resonant frequency of the top? My label reads 88 and was made the same year.

Also, PM'd a member about this guitar being available again. He's been wanting a Ruby SMT, but I told him to check this out. Hope it helps Patch.

Thanks for the clarification everyone. Now buy Patch's 1881 as a stocking stuffer along with a bigger stocking to put it in! :)

Once again, a great guitar to have in your arsenal.

What's it gonna take folks? How about I take $125 off? That's $1225 shipped!

I might also add that MWoody is selling the matching 12-string! Now wouldn't this be a pair worth having?

Eh?

Wouldn't it?

I could most likely, maybe, possibly kinda sort of match Patches price if someone buys both and it happens in the next few days.

I've noticed that I'm not the only one having trouble selling instruments right now. Maybe we should re-write some holiday lyrics?

Patch, I noticed your listing does not come up when you do a search for "Ovation guitar", only "Adamas guitar". You should include the name "Ovation" to get more hits.

PS - I can vouch that this is a great guitar for the price, folks. If you like the shallow bowl, don't let this pass you by!

BTW,

I've gotten an unofficial offer on eBay for $1100. I'm not going to accept it unless he/she makes it legitimate by clicking the offer button. But I'll extend that price to the OFC.

Anyone here want it for that? Let me know quick so I can kill the auction. The guy may or may not respond to my reply of course, but if he is legit, you have to move fast. :)

Now that I'm back, it's time to resurrect this thread.

I've no idea why, but this beauty is STILL available! I've got it back on eBay, but am willing to make a DEAL with an OFC'er. ;)
