ANNOUNCEMENT: Fall Southern Jam
October 17-19, 2008

Guys, we have a tremendous opportunity for some jammage.

First of all, The Artist currently known as Richard will be coming to Atlanta for 10 days in October, arriving Friday the 17th. Richard will be collecting his 08C and would love for YOU to have the opportunity to play it.

Then as though things could get any better, War Eagle has a cabin with 500 acres, pond, and horseback riding trails, located about 20 minutes North of Waynesville NC that he has most graciously offered for a jam.

Please consider this the official announcement, simulcast on two forums, in the spirit of the Olympics.

The plan as of now is to congregate at War Eagle's home Friday night and strike out from there into the wilderness, perhaps Saturday morning. Eagle says that anybody who wants to stay a few extra days and jam some more is welcome.

WHO'S IN?

I need to check the calendar, but the location is less than 2 hrs from here. I should be able to make it.

As of now, it looks like I will be able to make it, maybe sans the wife and kid. We'll see what comes of it as it gets closer. If I come by myself, I'll probably bring an air mattress and stay in the cabin. If she decides to come, I'll bring the tent.

The cabin is 120 yrs old...It ain't the Ritz...Catfish and trout pond...500 acres,10 miles of trails...I'll have my Yamaha Rhino with me...You can bring a four wheeler, tent or a camper and set up around the pond. That's what I'm going to do..We will have plenty of firewood for inside and out...Their is 1 king bed, two queen beds, three couches and a loft....It will sleep ten comfortably although I've seen it sleep 40!!! That was in my younger days....It will be very peaceful and definately beautiful....I'll get the food for the Saturday night cookout...Any special diet needs, let me know...It will be a meat and potatoes weekend..Now...GIDDY UP!!

This should be great. The first night I'll be fresh off a 24 hour journey so I'd probably fall asleep lying on broken glass. Might want a bed the second night.

Many thanks War Eagle and thanks to Jas for organising this and transporting me.

I didn't think about female units when I offered up the cabin...It is definately rustic and full of testosterone...Any female is welcome...but it's a little rough..on purpose!! The two queen beds are in the same room...The King bed is in a room of it's on...The couches are in the living room...and the loft can sleep two or three....It'll work out...I'm camping around the pond....

Iffy - I'm the guy playing the guitar looking up at the guy on the porch...

If you sleep in the truck - keep the windows open a tad just in case someone cracks open some baked beans... then again with this crew it might be safer if you keep the outside air outside.

Yes, although I doubt there will be much color this year since everything is so dry.
Connecticut is better but who the hell wants to go there? More red. It's best to stay below the line Capt Lovehandles refered to.

Bumping this puppy upstairs with a purpose:

Should we start another thread as to which 'O's we should bring to the get-together, plus what we'd like to others to bring? Or maybe take it over to the 'other' AREA .

I'd love to caress a couple of Adamii, pick on a Josh and cradle a BW. Others attending will probably be more creative in their wishes.

If we start a list, I'll try to bring three that I may have on it.

I'll be bringing an '08 Collectors and a Traveler Escape MkII. I'd like to have a fang on an Adamas I, both a 6er and a 12er. Also would like to try on of Al's Koala guitars and a #47.

Iffy, my Deacon will be there for you to cradle. Richard, there will be several/many Adamii. Alomost surely there will be a 47RI, and with Tim there, we'll have a 12er for sure. You will NOT leave disappointed, especially if Beal makes it with some original slotheads. If Mishka can make it, we may have three 08C's. WOW!

Well, I am going to try to make it...but it will be without the '08C which has found a new home. Between the Adamas I twins (-7) and my '47 RI (not to mention the other 26 guitars I have) I've got more than enough to play...
I'll bring the '47 and maybe both pair of Twins (Adami -7's and Elite -6P's)...I also have a PA; GB Shen Stereo 60; plenty of mic's, etc, so we'll be jammin...
It all depends on scheduling...mine and the wife's...

I listed 'Iffy's October Menu' HERE . Just LMK which ones you'd like to fondle.

I'm fairly sure that the Academy is making the trip. That leaves two for popular vote...

The Captain will be holding two things for me, that one is the cheapy. I've still got to file some more money away and send it to Al before #2 arrives. I hope the Captain finds #2 a bit less painful to play.

I wasn't squeezing, I was just sqizzing. I didn't plug it in yet, but I had a sticky beak when I got it home. The neck actually plays very nicely. And it looks well made and not a bit bodgy. Unplugged, it makes almost no sound.

Jas, at first, I thought that was a picture of me...but then I remembered that I grew a beard, years ago, to hide the second chin....plus I would never play that far up the neck.

Beal, there's a pond and 500 acres with trails, all bordering the NC / Tenn line.

Don't bring Mason jars...bring a tanker.

What would this be? . . 12HourDrive or so from NY/NJ??

Jeanette&I bought all this CampingGear back in '03 when we did Xmas in th'Keys . . . haven't used it since (tent probably still has sand in it . . .) She's been on me recently that we should go camping again . . .

Just about the same for TJ, Gway and I.

That is, . . . if YouBoys could "tolerate" a Yankee . . . .

Hell, I've had to 'tolerate' ya'll most of my life anyways. Ya being a 'Joysey' curmudgeon would just make this ol' boy feel at 'home'. (Don't let that dissuade ya!) :D

I can hardly wait to meet some of you OFC 'classics'. I'm tired of missing out on the 'gatherings' and the 'T-shirt story'.

Seriously, ya'll have been a wonderful and endless source of info, gits and entertainment. But most of all, ya'll have been a 'family' that has aided me (albeit unknowingly) through some tough times within the past eighteen months!

There's not much I can contribute to the gathering other than I can hold a clinic on proper soldering techniques. LMK if that would fit into the abbreviated time frame. I would venture that anyone attending will learn something that they never were aware of.

cliff et al, please attend so that I can personally thank ya'll!

Thanks.

I'll hafta' see how things "TimeOut" . . .
I've got a gig on the 17th, but that's my regular solo "restaurant" gig . . I can prolly "jockey" that w/advance notice, . . . but I've also got a big Photographer'sTradeShow t'do around then, and the client usually requires a little xtraTLC . . .

. . we'll see . . .

. . . I seem t'recall Jeanette's got us on another BoulderVisit in Oct., . . but I'm not sure when . . .

. . . if it turns out I can make it, I'll send you an address for the rum :D

Would there be room inside the cabin to bunk two female-folk from New Jersey if we can work all the details out on our end??

No, it's not sunburst, but it sounds so pretty that the burst could only take away from it!

The wife and other kid may be coming, but if they do, I'm leaving them in Asheville.

If they DON'T come - would any of you Jersey folk want to carpool?

Crimson,
An Ovation sister and I are working on seeing if our work schedules will permit this to happen; I'll know about mine tomorrow. If your family doesn't come, and if your missus is o.k. with it, I'm sure Cheryl wouldn't mind carpooling. (But if we do end up driving ourselves, we're o.k. with that, too.)

Bluesy, thanks for the info; we'll keep that in mind.

Just thinking about attempting this is so outside the box for me; I hope it does happen!

Karen,

That is also true and exciting for me! I could not have even considered such a venture two years ago. So I'm pullin' for all those that have the slimmest chance of attending.

Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the 'family' that can make it!!!

From another thread:

With Beal & Debanjo there, they'll pick up pretty much anything.

Here's a couple of my suggestions:

Grayson Capps - Poison, Uncle Ed Lee
Eagles - Tequila Sunrise with Debanjo on slide
Any 12-bar blues jamming, esp. with Cliff on vocals, could do a medley.
Traveling Wilburys always sounds good with multiple guitars.
