My old 1117 Legend has the traditional glue-on "fat" rosette. My picking style has me running into it with fingertipsnails enough to make a problem up-close with a mic. Has anyone ever heard of the old "thick" rosette being replaced by the paper-thin glue-on or even a retrofit inlay of some sort?

Actually, I sort of balance my picking hand lightly on the top. My three "free" fingers (nails, yes) glide back and forth over where a pickguard would be to steady my hand. I guess I developed this alternative to resting on the bridge or whatever. Never got the totally free-floating thing down. Result: the fingers will "clip" the rosette now and then. Bad technique? No doubt!

You play too well to have bad technique. I'll bet you can correct your technique much easier than you can change the rosette.

You can most likely send it to Ovation and they can inlay the rosette. dvd had the epaulets on his 2001C inlaid.

You might even be able to find a local shop to do the work.

I've been wondering about the inlay option: CAN the boys at the mothership pull that off? That would be great!

the hole underneath the acrylic rosettes is usually pretty rough cut, but I'm sure someone could route the hole and do the inlay work.

I am sure if you email Kim the question you would get a definitive answer rather quickly.

This is exactly why the epaulets are great. No boring chunky sound hole but a nice platform to rest yer pinky on :)

The emails at Ovation have changed. Go to the Ovation website and email them from there.

On the other hand, the old email addys may continue to work for a while....

I then tried on friday to email Mr. Keller at the above address and it bounced back as undeliverable.

I then tried yet a different address for Mr. Keller late friday night and I hope it got through. Before anyone asks what that address was, a) I don't know yet if it will get through, and b) I don't feel right posting an individual's email address on a public forum.

We've been through this before. For cripes sake, Ovation spends big bucks in getting a Customer Service department together and making the corporate addys available! And they've done a superior job at that.

Has anyone called John or Kim on this topic? If not, I'll be glad to do so and put this 'puppy' to rest...

You need "Nail Silencers"! I think they were in the same catalog as "String Tubes".

Or you can make your own... I recommend high-temp RTV silicon in a tube.

The email address they made available for customer service on the website did not get me a response. I did not see any individuals' direct addresses on the website.

Both of the direct addresses for Mr. Keller (the first of which, mentioned above, bounced back) were given to me by someone else. I have no way of knowing if Mr. Keller would want either of those made public, so I chose to err on the side of caution.

If they don't care, I certainly don't. But I don't know that they don't, and I don't even know if the last address I used is valid or not yet, since I haven't heard back. Why would I give out an address I don't even know is valid?

Best to error on the side of caution until you know for sure.
