I think this may be it, the last ovation guitar I would really like to find and own.

Someone must have one they haven't played in years - I promise to give it a great home.

Sure you don't mean 5741? That's a sunburst 14 fret parlor with a peg head. Is that what you are looking for? IF not what is a 5749?

Positive!

The 5749 was produced at about the same time but in far fewer numbers (8-12 units?). It and the PPG3 used the OCP-1 (707400 & 704600) pickup and were mostly shipped to Japan.

There were 5 parlors produced as far as I know; the 5741, 2 variations (wide and narrow neck) of the '97 Collector, the PPG3 and the 5749.

Dave, your knowledge continues to amaze me!

Can you provide me with any additional info on these models?

P777 is a center hole version available in natural or burgandy
P778 is an elite style version available in natural or blue

Both have solid sitka spruce tops and OP-X pre amps

WOW!

Seven parlors! I guess I'm not done collecting after all.

OK, 3 more ovations. Any more info on these 2? When were they produced? Were they available in the US or only overseas?

Do you know of anyone who has any of these 3?

The only one I have seen personally is the P778. It was for sale in a shop in Kumamoto, JP during one of my visits. They also had a ukulele sized version in the same color, and of course I bough the uke. These models were not marketed in the US.

There is also a version of the P778 with Koa top and Palm Tree shaped soundholes (and matching uke). Last I knew Tony C. had a set of these.

So were the P777 and P778 made in Asia or the US?

I like this Google translation from a Japanese site:

"Ovation P778-TQ 19 unique style of this as if it took the melon and the true face of the ovation. It is quite distinctive."

Still no leads on a 5749, but wanted to share this info from KK on the P777 and P778;

P778TQ: 2 built in 1/2000
P778TN: 1 built in 1/2000

P777-4: 1 built 2/2000
P777ANB: 1 built 3/2000

There are no indications that there were any reorders, and they all went to Nakao Japan.

I don't imagine I'll be seeing a P777 or P778 here in the US but Dave, if you see another one on a trip to Japan, be sure to let me know...
