| Some of you experts may know. Did the 1111 from 1981 have the 5 piece neck, or 2 piece? Did the bridge have the screw covers? I just purchased one that has the textured black bowl, no screw covers, 2-piece neck, and chrome tuners with nylon inserts. I have heard that two exact model guitars could have different features, so that's why i'm asking. Heres the pics. Thanks.

| Strange. Wonder why that is. I was just curious, because the guitar is a 1981 according to the S.N. and is supposed to be in mint condition. That made me a little suspicious, I guess. It is going to be here tomorrow, so I will know more then. I was thinking that the ones that I have seen had the 5 piece neck, but there could have been exceptions. It has the correct ebony board, also. |

| I received the Ovation today, and i'm just amazed with the condition of it. It is in unplayed, brand new shape, and the case still has the bar code on it. I would call it new old stock. According to the S.N., it was built in 1981, and everything looks correct, except the case. It came with light gauge strings on it, and I wanted to try some 13's, so I thought I would take a look inside while I had the strings off. I was surprised to see that this guitar has the A style top bracing pattern. It is clearly marked Model 1111 and Made in Connecticut U.S.A. I have never known of a 1111 having the A bracing pattern. I sent an e-mail to Ovation to see if they could shed some light on it. Any ideas? |

Location: 6 String Ranch | Nice guitar, made in Moosup Ct. Probably is the K-5 bracing Temp was talking about. A newer case but so what, a case is a case and as long as it's good who cares about the vintage. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | the stain under the finish caused less adhesion so they were bolted to keep from coming off, always a good idea for the bridge to stay in place. |

| I'm not too concerned about the case. In fact I like the new one as well, if not better than the old brown ones. I'm still in shock from getting this guitar with the new case for 250.00, shipped. It's basically a brand new 1981 1111. I will buy all I can get like this one, and to top it all off, this one sounds about as good as any i've played. I will have to take a closer look at the bracing next string change. What is the difference between the K-5 and the A? I always thought that Balladeers had the modified X.

Location: 6 String Ranch | If I remember right the mod X is the K5 but that might not be correct.
There also was a time when all bridges were bolted so there are some -4s out there with bolts but the stain is the reason for the bolts. |

| I'm going to take another look at the bracing in mine, but it's not a modified X. I know what that pattern looks like. This one has the braces all running with the grain, just like the Legend models. |
