Location: SE Michigan | I have an older 1581 Adamas with an Optima preamp that intermittently blinks out. I am pretty sure it's not just a connection issue because the tuner still functions, I just lose audio output for awhile. Jiggling the wires or changing to the XLR does not help. If you leave it alone for a few minutes it will start working again.
Anyway I was looking to replace the Optima, or try to retrofit a newer preamp such as a VIP, Studio, or OP-Pro. If I were to retrofit one of the newer ones I would also need the can/socket/sleeve that the unit slides into.
If you have one of these that you would like to sell to me, and if you are confident it is in good working order, send me a private message with the price that you are asking.
Thanks

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I can attest that a preamp upgrade to the OP Pro or VIP is very difficult. If you have a lot of time on your hands and the cohones to do it, good luck to ya' (:
(I hope you can find an Optima though) |

Location: closely held secret | Brian, have you contacted Kim or John about replacing the Optima? Last time I mentioned replacing the OP24 in my '87, they had a supply of them.
Unless you're looking for the compression/exciter in the Studio, IMO the Optima is just as good, in some ways better, than the OP-Pro. |

(I hope you can find an Optima though) I upgraded my 87C from an OP24 to an OP Pro. Of course, the top had been cracked wide open and I put a whole new body on it.
Go with the Wabbit's suggestion and replace the Optima with a fresh one from the factory...... |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I just spoke with Kim a week ago and at that time he mentioned they didn't have them in stock. I was wanting to put one in my 87C that's there for repair. Let me know if you have any success, 'cause still want one also. |
