Location: Germany, where delicious wine is growing (Rheinh) | Hi, Richard,
I've just seen in your signature you have both, the 2008C and the 1680 Primier. Please tell me the differnce of them. What is the better one.
Half a year ago I was dreaming about a custom-order, which has a 2008C body and 1680 neck.

Location: Sydney, Australia | Bernie, if you could only have one guitar (which I see is not an issue for you) the 08C would win, because of access to the upper frets. Both are stonking good guitars. I've never had them side by side with the same strings (I have silk & steels on the 08C and medium phosphor bronze on the 1680 - this alone makes the 1680 boom more).
The 08C sounds better to me (more mellow) when I'm playing them, but my nephew was playing the 1680 a few months ago and it blew me away listening to him - next time he's in town I'll get him to play the 08C so I can do a side by side from in front of the guitar.
A good start for a custom order would be 12 fret to the body (a'la 1680) with a hand laid contour body. The contour body promotes a better playing posture (face of guitar vertical). The hand laid bowl feels a lot nicer to me than the mass produced ones - no idea if it improves the sound, but I like to think it would.
The 08C has a mysterious neck attachment, hidden inside the bowl, behind a barrier which is a seamless part of the bowl (no visible bolts or any other means of attachment). If it ever needs a neck reset, the mothership may be the only option - I'd prefer a bolt-on neck (not that I'd do it myself, but it's nice to know it's possible).
And from a looks perspective, the 08C wins hands down (although I'd get a carved headstock, a'la #47 reissue). |

May be one day they will build my "2008 Primier".
Thanks again...

Oh, I agree. I don't have the 08C but I have a few Adamas beauties, including the 1187-2 RI. I would prefer the look of the 1680 though. I think that guitar is one of Ovation's most beautiful ~ so elegant and stealthy looking, and the sound! I will NEVER sell mine.
Bernie, I know you are loving yours, too! Told ya.
here\'s mine
