Nice at the BIN but will probably go for less.

What a great guitar, I hope someone here snags it at that fantastic price.

But I think that the Thunderhead is rarer.

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas | Well,,, this newbie got the Thunderhead. It shipped yesterday out of Santa Clarita, CA, and should be on my Little Rock doorstep by this Thursday. I am hoping to get some tech support from ya'll. I have googled my fingers off trying to find out how the electronics are configured. From what I have gleaned so far, the 3-way toggle is not a 3-way toggle in the classic sense. One position is "in-phase", one is "out-of-phase" and one is standby. Does that make sense to you guys? What does that mean technically.
I also read that there is a master volume, two tone controls[easy enough] and a blender knob. I assume you use the blender to effect 1] neck PU, 2] Bridge PU or 3] both pickups [which is what I thought the toggle would do]. In this case, if you rotated the blender knob to the halfway position, is that accessing both pickups equally? Geez,,,,, this all makes my head hurt.
Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
Thanks! | |

Ovation Tribute Site on Patents
Here's Baron Audio's Site link for the Thunderhead with vibrato. You may want to contact him for details on your guitar, as he apparently has done quite a bit of research on the Storm Series guitars.

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas | Got it a couple of hours ago. It is the bomb!!!
No buckle rash; no headstock dings; one small scratch on the back of the neck, not even through the finish; gold hardware shiny as new, just a little wear on the pickups,,, heck not even a little checking in the finish,,,, MINT! Low action, neck plays like butter. I'm gonna love this guitar long time!
I think after all you guys helping, surfing the internet and playing with it a while today,,, I pretty much understand it. Just one question left,,,,,,,,,,,
What does in and out of phase mean?
Thanks! | |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Sound is produced in waveforms made up of frequency and amplitude. That is why you will see a note on a tuner sometimes listed in Hz Hertz), i.e., 440Hz.
In-Phase: Having waveforms that are of the same frequency and that pass through corresponding values at the same instant
Out of Phase: Having waveforms that are of the same frequency but do not pass through corresponding values at the same instant.
Being able to switch the phase sometimes helps eliminate feedback issues. You will see a phase shift button on most direct boxes also.

Location: El Paso, TX | Congrats Mack. I finally got my Thunderhead a couple of years ago after searching for years- it is a great/versatile guitar. I wouldn't trade it for any Gibson or Gretsch.

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas | Man,,, I love this guitar. I have a Gibby Es-137, a '68 Fender Coronado, '73 Tele Thinline and a '66 Silvertone 1454 that I have used for that semi-hollow and hollow body sound. This guitar has moved to the head of the pack. I gigged with it last night and the guys in the band LOVED the sound and were blown alway by it's mint condition. My only wish is that it had easier access to the higher frets, but that's just a wish, not a complaint :-)
I'm looking for my next Ovation electric now,,,, maybe a Preacher to compete with the Les in my harem :-)
Thanks to all you guys for helping me out here. I really appreciate it.

Thanks! +1 Nail On Head... If it's wired from the factory, you figured it out. If there are any issues (like something not working) get a little mirror and look inside as the pickup leads may "plug" into the gadget the vol/tone pots are mounted to and it may have unplugged.
There is a "cook book" of sorts with all the sounds of the Thunderhead and what positions to put the knobs in to achieve those sounds.
Here is a copy I just made of the settings..
