Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | You’d never know by just looking, but the serial number on this one (515898) dates this mandolin to 1997. But I’m telling you folks, this thing looks BRAND NEW! I cannot find a mark on her! Her neck is perfect; her finish is flawless, even the case looks almost new. If it wasn’t for a tiny bit of wear on frets 2 and 3, I would be wondering if this ever got played at all! And so ….. here she is; a beauty in perfect condition. Anyway, you all know the basics: USA made, solid spruce top, 5-piece neck, ebony fretboard, walnut bridge, hard-shell case, ABSOLUTELY PRISTINE CONDITION! I’M ASKING $765 shipped in the continental US. Check about shipping if you live overseas. (I think this might even make it within the postal restrictions for Australia, just in case you folks down under want to try something a little different.) It is newly strung with a nice, new set of Adamas ball-end mandolin strings.
Folks, this thing plays like butter and rings like a bell. It's everything you'd expect from New Hartford and built like a little, pleasant-toned tank! Seriously, it can be nearly impossible to find a used instrument in this condition, and you certainly won't find a better mandolin for this kind of money anywhere. As always, let me know what you think. You can also find a couple more pictures by following this LINK.
One last thing, I will be going out of town for the weekend and internet access will be spotty at best. If you send a question, I will get back to you Monday at the latest. This one is going up on eBay as well. I expect a bill from New Hartford anytime now, so I can’t afford to sit on this one for too long I’m afraid. If you decide you want it, go ahead an click the BIN on Ebay before someone else does. I’ll adjust the invoice to the OFC price.

One thing I've always wondered ... what does butter play like? People use the term "plays like butter" and I can't quite grasp the analogy. |

It almost looks like a tiny bit of glue squeezed out a bit at that point or something. It is under the finish though. I ran my fingernail across the finish, and it is factory smooth there.
Here are some close-ups I took just now:

So this one is still for sale. Any other offers?
John Budny's going to send me a bill any day now, so I need to move this one along. |
