Location: NJ | This is probably the most comfortable guitar strap you will ever own. If you suffer from shoulder fatigue this strap eliminates it. It uses the air cell technology which distributes the weight of the instrument over your entire shoulder. The strap is 3" wide and about 60" at it's longest. Aircell technology is used in many high end bag manufacturers to eliminate the fatigue of carrying heavy loads for a long period of time. Quality craftsmanship leather ends made in Korea.

Can someone help me out?

I can't imagine trying to play a guitar with a 39" strap. 44" makes my guitar feel like a bolo necktie. But it made me feel like a Dandy.
BTW, if you haven't bought one of these, break out the credit card and call Al. They are much nicer than I thought they'd be. I had something similar on a high-end laptop bag I used to carry, but this is nicer that that one even. |

remember the way they all wore their guitars like bowties in the 50's & 60s's........
well that is where 39" will put you.
Do you actually wear your guitar that high or was 39" just a guesstimate? |

Do all Ovation users have abdominal goiters that necessitate 60 inch straps? ;)
I'll post a pic. As I mentioned previously I need a cushy strap for my Moonstone electric, as it weighs 206 pounds.

A 39" strap with a 206 pound guitar stretches the strap to an appropriate length.

Still haven't lost all the weight I gained on that California trip, Bobbo. |

My straps are 45" OC straplok to straplok for the SSBs, EA Vipers, solid bodies, and the smaller archtops, 46" for the bigger archtops, and 47" for the OMs and deepbowls. I generally hold the guitar maybe an inch higher than most, too. |

I'm 5'8" 145 lbs (runner). I honestly don't feel that I'm wearing the guitar high. Bummer that the strap alpep is hawking doesn't adjust to this length.

I mean no offense, but do you have large shoulder blades, or a hump? How do you find a strap that short? I just measured all of my "off-the-shelf" straps, and they all average 45" hole-to-hole at their SHORTEST position. |

Seriously... I hope I didn't offend anyone. I was just surprised to see a guitar being held in a rather average position, by a fairly tall guy, only be 39" long. As I said above, just looking at the picture, and how he's holding the guitar, I would guess it was a standard strap set around 48." It's certainly not up in George Harrison land which I would think is around 45"... and yet.. there you have it.. 39".. Me thinks the laws of physics are being violated.
But regardless of all that... These are the most comfortable straps around. |

But my straps are still four feet (48" or so) long. |

From the 12-inch wide aspect, the boards appear the same. From the side, the 4x12 is deeper and it takes more string to get around it. |

Location: Texas | Noah...EXCELLENT point...If a 2x12 and a 4x12 are positioning a guitar in the same place, the 4x12 will need 4" more in his (or her) strap...2" going across the shoulder + 2" coming back to the guitar... actually a little more coming back because it would traverse diagonally through the 4" instead of straight across it.
Now on dudes, the trip from the back of us to the butt of the guitar is a lot (LOT) further on some, than others, such as our friend Bob (enviously said)...
My son is about 6'1 and 155...I am the same height and 205. Sounds like an experiment is needed. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Just looking at Al's strap in the photos, there appear to be numerous ways any hobbyist could modify it to a shortened 39" hole-to-hole configuration. It may require new holes or even new leather tabs at the end, but it is possible. I use a very old camera strap that I have modifed several times for guitar use. Anything is possible if you are willing to invest a little time and money in the project. Bob, I'd go for it. |

I was going to measure the strap on my Ultra GS last night, but forgot. I have it pretty short, because I still sit down when I play. But I've got 4 inches and 40 pounds on Bob. |

I don't know, Al. I'm a physically fit 53 year old male. 5'8" 145 lbs. 31 inch waist. I wear my guitar at a fairly normal height - maybe a little higher than some. Shouldn't I be able to enjoy the comfort of the strap you are selling?
BTW, I bought the strap that's on there from GC. Adjusted the loop to its shortest length and was good to go. It's very padded but not as nice as Al's. It's more like a thick strip of foam rubber with an elastic-ey band. Not great quality.
That being said, as I'm writing this I'm wondering if the strap I'm using is stretching with the weight of the Moonstone. Won't I be embarrassed if that's the case after all this?
I'll adjust one of my leather straps to 40" and put it on the Moonstone and see where it lands.

If you're used to playing all hunched up over your guitar, 39" is probably doable. But for me, the guitar is really jammed up tight and doesn't work for the way I play ... my normal strap length is 52". |

Location: Massachusetts | So just to make sure the padded strap wasn't stretching, I adjusted an embroidered strap to exactly 40". This felt just right:
Then I adjusted it to exactly 44", which from what I understand is the SHORTEST possible length on alpep's strap. It's too long for me. Check out the difference in my left arm in both pics (although I notice I'm on different frets). It's stretched out uncomfortably with the longer length:
I think I have to start eating more ice cream... :D :D

Location: Boise, Idaho | OK big boys. I just measured the strap on the Ultra GS I've been using the last few weeks. 39" from hole to hole and I didn't mess with it. I only use it when sitting and like to keep it fairly tight so the guitar stays vertical. My other Ultra GS was a bit loose when I sat. It was 41". I'm 4" taller and 40 lbs. fatter than Bob. |
