Location: atlanta | I recently purchased my first DVD recorder. It's
capable of recording directly from VHS videotape, so I hooked everything up, ruined the first 10 disks, finally got the hang of it, and successfully made a master disk of Kaki's two national TV appearances, Letterman and Conan. I sent a copy to Paul Moody and a few others, just to see if the disk would play on other people's equipment. The reports have been affirmative. The disk plays perfectly in home equipment, but some computer drives have had trouble playing it.
I have a small supply of the first batch that I made, and I would like to send one to any of you who would like to have it. Send me a separate e-mail with your mailing address, and I'll send one to you free of charge, no strings attached. International addresses are okay. Use my new email address: dgkatl@gmail.com
In my legal opinion, no copyrights are infringed. The original programs were broadcast on national television over the air. The case law is clear that even though copyright might exist in the original material, there is no violation unless such copied material is used for commercial purposes (sale or exchange for money, etc.).
My sincere thanks to all of you for your kind and
unfailing interest in my daughter's career as an Ovation Artist.

Got the disk over the weekend, and it was great! Thanks!
I'd seen the Letterman appearance, but not the Conan one. It was refreshing watching it wide-awake during daylight hours :-)
Jeanette was blown away by her performances!
She'd only seen Kaki play "snippets" on that little promotional CD we got at the last Tour.
She was so amazed that she had to watch it twice.
Thanks Again!

Will she take some time off after the Japan tour, or will we be able to catch her here on the East Coast. Thanks ...an you got begging mail....... |

Found out too late (already sold out Shuba's) so didn't get to see her live. Maybe next album she will make a swing through the Midwest.

A belated thanks for my copy. I popped it in last night, and was extremely impressed -- being new to Kaki's material.
Question about the performances on the DVD: how can you tell if she makes a mistake? :D |

John, on Letterman she does "Playing with Pink Noise" from the Legs to Make Us Longer CD, and on Conan she plays "Close Your Eyes and You'll Burst Into Flames" from her first CD.
Yesterday I picked up a few more blank DVD-R discs, so I'll have one for anybody who wants one.

Got the DVD yesterday. Thank you very much. My wife and I were both very impressed. Kaki's music has a huge impact when you actually see what she is doing rather than just listening to it.
Great performances! |

I want to thank you very much for sharing it. I liked both performances but especially that in Conan show. To me it had many various feelings at the same time; humor, sensitive feelings, harder feelings and so on... I think she is a talent artist who can use her talent too.
Thanks again, and hopefully she comes to play in Finland some day too. |

It takes a lot of guts to do something different and tons of talent to succeed. Listening to her music has been a joy. Finally seeing her perform added to my enjoyment of her music. |

The TV guys did a marvelous job of showing her hands work. What was the age difference between Letterman and Conan? She looks much, younger on Conan.
Thanks again. |

Location: atlanta | Bill, Conan was in October 2003, and Letterman a little over a year later in December 2004. So she was 24 and 25 respectively. I personally think she looks more like a pro in the Letterman, but I too am with Piraj about the exuberant raw energy of the Conan.
I have about a dozen more disks if anyone wants one.
Best regards to everybody--

Sent you an email a coupla days ago. I thought it was Letterman when I first saw Kaki a coupla years ago, from your post above though, it had to be Conan. Anywho, thanks for making these available to us. My address is in the email I sent...
Thanks again |

I got the DVD last week, but haven't had a chance to look at it. I put it in two different PeeCee's and the standalone DVD player and none of them will play it. Weird. |

I received my copy several days ago. Awesome talent and unique playing style. Until I saw it I had never thought you could get that much of a percussion sound out of an acoustic guitar. |

Location: atlanta | Cruster, I just emailed you some suggestions.
If anyone else is having trouble playing the DVD, here are some general considerations.
Keep in mind that the DVD is a DVD+R. There are DVD players which can only play DVD-R (I'm damned
if I'm know the difference between them though). One of my closest friends here in Atlanta couldn't get his DVD to play either, until he figured out that he had a DVD-R player.
Let's try to troubleshoot this. When you load it in the player, will it boot up and show the menu screen? This screen can be a little
tricky. What you want to do is to highlight the thumbnail screen with the flagpole on top. Then left click it with your mouse. That should
start it.
If all else fails, try playing it in another DVD player. If it won't play in someone else's player, then it is possible that I fail to
"finalize" the disk when I first recorded it.
I can send another one if necessary.

Location: Midland, MI | In the PeeCee's, Winblows says (from the command line) 'drive not ready.' I can open D:\ but nothing shows up. Trying to open it with WMP results in nothing. In the standalone DVD player (which can play DVDRs), it just goes through 'loading' for about five minutes then says the disc can not be played (may be damaged).
I have another PeeCee with a Sony DVD+-R/RW drive in it. I know for a fact that can read any format...when I get a chance I'll try it in that and let you know. |

What is the story behind her unusual name |

Location: atlanta | Stephen, as a toddler, whenever she tried to pronounce her real name, Katherine, it came out as "Kaki". She liked it and has used it as her first name ever since.
She never uses thumb picks or finger picks. Once a month she goes to a nail shop in Brooklyn and has thick clear acrylic applied to the nails on her right hand. The process results in artificial fingernails which are long and extremely strong.
Nils and Jeff, your DVDs were mailed this morning.
Peter in Taiwan, your DVD will take about a week to get there according to the Postal Service.
Best to all--
