Location: south east Michigan | Okay...I have found out as much as I could and I'm ready to get this thing off the ground.
Recap the Basics:
Cost: $29.00 (all profits to go to the OFC upkeep fund)
Objective: To come up with 13 creative and interesting photos that members will enjoy looking at every day for a month. And...let's set a sales goal of 20 calenders.
Proceedure: Send me a check for $29.00 per calender along with at least one photo that you would like to have displayed. (photo details to follow) You have until October 1st to get an order and photo in. Calenders will be mailed by November 1st.
Photo Details:
The picture will end up being 8-1/4 x 11. It is important that there be enough resolution for the photo to be sharp and clear at that size.
Photo must be "landscape" (aka: wide), not tall.
Let's get creative and put some excitement in the photos. Use interesting backgrounds. Alaska Fly Guy talked about having glacier ice behind his Ovation. Do you have an Ovation with historical importance? Take a photo that tells the story. How about a picture of your collection? Better yet, how about a picture of your collection with you in it? Even better, how about a picture of your collection and you with a hot babe? :D
Take your time to come up with something special.
I'd like to have the pictures reflect the personalities of our members and not look like pictures from a sales catalog.
Hey CaptainLovehandles (aka:jas)...If you want to draw somthing, that would be cool!
Come on Mr. Wong!!! Do your thing!!!
****I don't mean to sound demanding.... I'm just trying to give encouragement!****
Photo Selection:
If you order a calender I want to do everything I can to include your photo. You'll just have to trust me in the selection process. As a check and balance, my wife Pam will help me out. The best thing that can happen is that I get so many great pictures that choosing between them becomes a real headache.
fine print:
Of course we cannot use copyrighted photos. And sorry, no pics of Nancy Wilson unless she is in your living room playing your Ovation.

It breaks down to:
$20.00 to Kinkos
$ 4.00 for shipping
$ 5.00 to the OFC upkeep fund
If shipping costs are less or IF I get a quantity discount, the OFC fund will just get a little fatter. |

I have recieved a couple nice pictures, but no orders as of yet.
Designzilla has offered to do some professional type work on this project. We are still working out some details but I think we can pull it off. Take a look at this "rough draft".

When you decide on the pic you want to submit, please don't post it here. It would be nicer if most of the calender pics have not been seen before.
So....still interested???? |

Another thing.....just for fun...I'll number the calenders in the order I recieve the check. The first one will be 1 / ???? and so on. Not that it really means anything special, I just know this crowd gets a kick out of that type of thing. |

....and (if these were mine) leaning my Larrivee 000-60 or Martin D-45V or D12-35 or HD-28 Brazilian Limited against something and not in a padded stand???? NOT GONNA HAPPEN.....
Thanks, Trboy...if I had more than TWO padded stands(of which I never need more than one, as I keep all of my guitars in their cases when not being played), I'd have a try at my version of this picture.
I prefer pearloid tuner knobs because they don't tarnish.

Designzilla (a.k.a. Steve) is going to do some professional type work for us.
Check out his rough draft.
http://www.designzilla.com/OFC1.HTM
Nice, eh?
We are still working out the details but we are going to make the best looking calender we can. We are looking into some different printing ideas. If we can to better than Kinkos for the same cost we will do it. If the whole thing falls apart the least you will see is professionally designed guitar pictures with Kinko's standard calender design.
To recap, Kinkos charges $20 to do a custom calender. Meijers charges $25. $29 ain't cheap but it's not far from the market price. Whatever money is left after printing and shipping costs will be sent to the OFC up-keep fund.
The reason I'm don't want to run this through the OFC store is because of the nature of the product. We would not want Miles to spend big bucks on calenders only to see them to become worthless on January 2nd. So it's a special order, pay in advance deal. (I don't want to get stuck with extras either!) Your just going to have to trust me. But I better do good because I know 2 guys from Jersey who would take me out at the knees.
I have recieved some very good pics so far but we need more. Remember....long pics, not tall. And digital please. We will need to blow them up to at least 8 x 10.
Lasty, I'm going to do a poll to re-gauge the interest. It has seemed like could sell 20 pretty easy. Designzilla is going to be spending some time on this so we would like an idea if it will be worth the effort. |

Miles has kindly "pinned" this thread to the top of the board for easy refference.
As of 9/10 I have recieved 3 orders with payments. That makes at least 22 to go. Come on gang. I don't want to have to ask the boys from Jersey to put the muscle on ya!
The deadline for orders is still weeks away. Maybe late october. HOWEVER...we cannot afford to produce more calenders than what are pre-ordered and paid for!!!!
Payment.....We have many members outside of the U.S. that would like a calender. I know ease of payment is an issue. How about this. Those who have to pay with a non-U.S. currency can purchase by making a payment at my PayPal account. PayPal fees will eat up some of that amount but I think I will still be okay.
I am listed on e-bay as user Skipkid1954 (Note: It is SKIPkid, not SLIPkid. (long story, please don't ask) If you pay by PayPal sent me a confirming e-mail with mailing instructions.
PLEASE...If you can send a check in the mail I would prefer that.
My name and address is listed as part of my signature below each of my posts.
I have recieved some great photos but am looking for more. Be creative. (reminder: digital, hi-res, and landscape format please)
Any questions???? |

Or should we add some $ for covering the shipping charges???
Thanks

For our members who use a different currency, you can use my PayPal account. (Skipkid1954)
The two people who have done that added a couple bucks to the amount to cover the PayPal commission. That was very nice of them.
If you are in the USA I would much preffer a check in the mail.
I have some good pics in but I'm looking for more. Figure about October 15th for the deadline on pics.
ALSO....I want to have at least 25 orders paid for by then. At that point Designzilla is going to start putting some serious work into this and I want it to be worth his effort. |

As you know I will be taking pictures at the Sept.30th event. I will be using film. A CD will be ordered at the time of processing. But the return time to me will be approximately 2 weeks. That will mean mid October. I hope there will be time for some of the pictures to be included in the calender. |

Location: Rego Park, NY, | I was going to try Costco many years ago when they started their photo service. I had my film in hand and I walked up to the counter. I looked at the photo printing machine and this is what I saw.
1. processed negatives ready for printing thrown on top of the machine mixed up like spagetti in a collander.
2.Negatives on the floor that were stepped on.As far as I could see, they were ruined.
3. A friend of mine working there. He knows what quality I look for (Color, lighting, etc). He told me to stay away because I would not be happy with the results.
Enough said, I also photograph weddings, events etc. So I have to be very particular about the product I present to a client. Therefore I will go to Costco but only for paper towels, toilet paper, etc. |

I utilize my neighborhood Riteaid with One Hour Photo service. Absolutely no issues... except for the day mine were switched and I had a roll of shots of Fabio! I got my boring guitar pictures back though, phew! |

Location: Rego Park, NY, | Yes Cliff, since we are located close to the Big Apple I know there are many places. The hours that I work make it next to impossible to go to Manhattan. I work till 8pm on Mon.,Weds.,Fri. and I work till 6pm on Sat. So if I tried to go there, the pictures would take more than 2 weeks to be done. There is a professional photo lab in Queens that has been in business for more than 40 years. Their priority is Medium Format and digital. So when I have this lab process 35mm they always tell me a rush would be
3 weeks !! |

My response was more frustration than anger. If you remember the e-mail that I sent you about lost/ruined negatives. I have actually refused some weddings because I could not depend on the processing end of the job. So I put off acepting jobs due to this problem. |

Can you find out:
1-Prices are for processing
2-Price for cd
3-how long it will take to be done.
Al is covering all the cost. So if it works for him that's fine. I can give you the film at the end of the night. |

While I don't mind being "the Mule" (as it were), I'd rather that you discuss the details/pricing directly with them (973.227.4646), if you don't mind.
When there's varying degrees of details (and OtherPeople'sMoney) involved, I'd prefer not to get in the middle. If you talk to John Castronovo at the number above (and tell him you were referred by "Cliff from Freeman"), I'm sure he'll give you a square deal. I haven't used them a lot for processing (mostly drum scans, duratrans, and cibachromes), but I know they do good work.
If it works out, I'd be happy to drop off the film one evening on my way home. |

I am going to send you all of the pictures that I took on the last tour. I am going to copy the original disc. Each picture should be 10 megs. Again my computer ignorance is showing. I am not sure if the lab used any compression/zip program to fit the pictures on the disc. You should receive them by next week. |

He has a ventilator tube, feeding tube, IV etc. he actually gnawed through his endotracheal tube with only his lower teeth. My sister inlaw scolded him and told him that he can't do that again. All he did was open his eyes really wide and with all his strength,he proceeded to form a big smile from ear to ear. He was trying to tell her that he was going to do what ever he wanted. He promised me that he would not do that again. |

Will this work okay for you? :
PhotoShop(CS2) .psd file (on a CD)
9"x12" landscape (you can crop as you see fit)
CYMK/300dpi
I'll try to have it in the mail to Brad by end of this week/early next week . . . . |

The magic number to make this project a go was 20. We have had about 30 "commitments".
There is still time. The pre-order phase is ending soon. The design phase is next. Once we get to the production phase, that's it. We can only make as many as are ordered at that time.
Just a friendly, yet firm, reminder. |

I'm already taking heat every time the word guitar comes up in conversation. I find myself sneaking off in the middle of the night to strum a few clandestine chords. I don't know how I'm going to explain an entire of year tawdry eye candy, maybe if I tell her it'll go in the garage.
Perhaps things would improve if I could just get Moody to teach me that elusive third chord. |

We know who is currently on the list. And there-by we know who is not on the list.
As of right now we have 36 calenders paid for.
Here is the timetable as it now stands.
Designzilla (Steve) will start on the design phase of the project on the 20th. At that time we will be start seriously looking into printing options. To do that we need to know just how many we are going to print. Therefore, I guess the order deadline should be October 20th.
Take a look at Designzilla's rough draft calender page.
http://www.designzilla.com/OFC1.HTM
The PayPal thing is working out okay. Paypal takes a $1.80 cut so adding $2 works out just right. My PayPal address is www.BRAD@ADIFP.COM
The members who live outside the USA can use PayPal and not have to deal with the currency exchange.
Any questions?? |

SPELL?????
HaHaHaHaHaHahaha . . . . . . . . . . . .

Later this week I am burning all the pics to one disc and sending them to Steve (Designzilla). I'll make a couple suggestions but he is the pro and I will bow to the superior intellect.
There will be a nice selection of photos for him to work with. |

How about the date that The Glen Campbell Show premiered???? And the date that Melissa Etheridge's first album was released(gobs of Adamas 12-string on that album)?
Nancy Wilson's birthday (March 16th) would be nice, too.....

Location: closely held secret | Well, it was back in the day, when Ovations were still treated pretty much like property, ya know. Oh, people did terrible things to them, like they dint have any feelins or nuthin. Some were used as paddles by immigrunts, some set on fire and used as torches by peasants when they'd storm the castle at night, and some... well, some jest suffered fates grown men can't even talk about without bustin down and cryin like a little girl who's et too much candy.
This particular Ovation... well. It had innocently accepted an invite from Krazy Keller to a party - the Jamfest after the Factory tour, now that I recollect - and crossed the path of Mad Moody and Twisted Templeman - some folk know him as the Phantom of the Futball field.
Well, Mad Moody got pretty het up, and took a swing at poor Celeb - that was her name - but his heart musta not bin in it, or else he's a piss-poor kicker, wearing them funny tenners and all...
but then came Twisted. "Hold 'er up!", he muttered, his speech somewhat slurred by the many vodka and tongue oil's he'd imbibed that night. So Moody held her up, while Temp kicked a mighty kick. It was awful!! Knocked a big chunk of 'er binding off, right there on the carpet! And then...
"Oh, my...", whispered Slim Slipkid. "He... he's killed her...". Slim knelt beside her, noticing the gaping hole left by the steel toe of Temp's jack-boot, and carefully cradled her in his arms. "I'm taking her home with me.", he said solemnly. "No one will ever do this to her again!".
"Hawr, hawr, hawr!", laughed Twisted Templeman, in his broken english. "She ain't nothin' but a gol-durned Celebrity, anyways!". He and Moody moved off, later to be seen puking in one of Cliff\'s shoes. The left one, I think. Cliff was still wearing it at the time.
And that's the sorrowful story of the sad Celeb, who hangs to this day in Slim Slipkid's basement, in between his poster of Tito Puente and his gym socks from high school. |

The booted Celebrity is the ultimate keepsake from the tour. (Well, maybe the give-away Adamas was the ultimate keepsake.) I really enjoy having it around.
As we were ready to leave the ski lodge they were looking for a garbage can big enough to hold it. Having been totaly sucked in to Mr. Keller's practical joke, I just could not stand to see any more torture inflicted on the poor thing.
But I don't want to be greedy. I'm thinking that I will bring it to the next tour and let someone else take it home. Maybe it can become a trophy of some sort that is handed off each year.
This reminds me of when BrianT and I were driving back from the tour and the going through Canadian customs. After we explained we were returning from a guitar gathering the inspector had us roll down the rear window for a look. "What's the deal with the smashed guitar???" he asked.
Good story Waskel...I would pay good money to hear Mr. Templeman use the phrase, "gol-durned" in a sentence. |

Mr. Designzilla informs me that the calendar is at the printers. I does not look like we will make the "in the mail" target day of December 7th but you will have them before Christmas. I will have the envelopes all addressed so that when they get to me I can just stuff'em a go. Steve is very happy with how they came out. I can't wait to see them myself. |

It's to bad that we don't have a date set for OFC Tour 2006 yet. It would have been nice to indicate the date on the calendar as if it were a national holiday. |

Location: south east Michigan | Well...90% are on their way. It's a long story but a couple envelopes will not go out till tommorrow. And I made damn sure one of them was Waskels.
I was told that all the USA packages will arrive before Christmas. I had to give the one to Alaska a little boost, but it will get there.
As far as our friends accoss the pond, they said it will be close. I sent them the best way I could without breaking the bank. It was about $8.00 each. To promise a Chirstmas delivery it would cost about $20.00 each. You will have them before the New Year for sure.
I am still waiting for a check to arrive so I don't yet have totals. When the dust settles in a couple days I will post an accounting of expences.
And yes...the line at the post office was all you would think it would be this time of year. Yet I'm glad I was not behind someone who had a project like I did. |

| You are a real hero Brad - stuff is currently taking about 7 days across the pond so I reckon it will be here before Christmas.
About the bucket of spit - it was just a reference to my current physical state. I have a bottle of water permanently at my side cos I'm not making enough spit. Round this decrepit old body it is definitely my most precious fluid. :o |

As far as holding mine until tomorrow, I don't blame you. It's ok, as outside of a little trip to Africa in January, I really don't have any need to watch the date until sometime around the middle of May.

Location: south east Michigan | It’s time make an accounting to the membership of the OFC of the calendar project.
This project turned out so well because a number of factors came together. Without any one of these parts, this calendar would not exist as it does.
Here are the numbers.
Total income: $1514.00
Expenses:
Printing & binding: $823.00
UPS shipping fees,
US mail to members,
Padded envelopes: $188.00
Total expenses: $1011.00
That means that I will be sending a check to Al for $503.00 to be used for the benefit of the OFC and it’s membership.
At the start the idea was that, at worst, we would end up with a calendar of marginal quality printed at Kinko’s and we might sell 20 of them. If I could find a better printer or get a better deal it would be a bonus. I had just begun my search for a better deal when Designzilla (Steve) stepped up to help. He said that if he was going to look at something for 12 months, he wanted it to be right.
So.
Because….such great photos where sent in and…
Because….the OFC membership got behind this project we were able to go to the printer with meaningful numbers.
Because.…we had a meaningful number for the printer, we got a better deal.
Because….we got a better deal the OFC upkeep fund benefits even more.
Because….we got a better deal I was able to print a few extra for our friends at the factory... Frank Untermyer, Rick Hall, Kim Keller, John Budny, and Darren Wallace will each receive a calendar with a letter of gratitiude from the Ovation Fan Club.
And because….we love our little trinkets, most calendars will come with a CD that has all the photos that where submitted for the calendar, all the photos I have collected from the tour, and a variety of odds and ends that might be of interest. I say “most” because I had a couple extra discs left over after I was done stuffing envelopes. If you get one without a disc, I’m sorry.
And thanks to CWK-II for his support to this project. |

I took that picture one night at a practice for Christmas service after everyone had left the church. The Custom Legend sounds so good in that old church, and I am glad the picture made the calander. The first time I played that guitar I knew it was special, and thanks to Tony for trading me for it. |

I think this is what happend.
Brad: These need to get there by Christmas.
Old but Kindly Mail Lady: First class will get them there by about the 21st.
Brad: Okay that's good. I'll fill out these customs forms while you do the domestic envelopes.
Mail Lady: You might want to boost this one going to Alaska by going priority.
Brad: How much more?
Mail Lady: 20 cents.
Brad: Okay...and for that make the rest of them priority also.
So... she did about 10 envelopes at first class before doing the rest priority. Those will be there today or tommorrow.
If we do it again, I'll know better. It's a learning curve you know. |

By matching up zip codes I can tell which ones went out first class before I switched the rest of the to first class priority. Again...the post office lady said they would get there before Christmas with regular first class.
First class envelopes went to:
StandingO
Samova
Steve Terry
Phil Wong
Paul Wag
BluesSailor
Noah
There might be a couple more. Lets see what happens today. |

Great, this is just like America West Airlines. "Congratulations Mr. Witko you've been upgraded to First Class. Well, this plane doesn't actually HAVE any first class, but we'll let you board first and sit in row one. Oh, and just so you know there is no overhead bin storage in row one because that's where the flight attendent keeps her purse. And there is no storage in front of you for your briefcase. Yes, one last thing, we start serving soft drinks and pretzels from the back of the plane forward and on rare occasion we run out some place around row 2. Have a nice flight."
Fortunately as of TODAY the TSA lets me bring my 3" sissors on board with me ...

THE OVATION FAN CLUB
FINE GUITARS / GREAT PEOPLE
GOOD FUN
December 13, 2002
Mr. Kim Keller
Kaman Corporation / Ovation Guitars
Dear Kim,
I know I speak for the entire Ovation Fan Club when I say how grateful we are to be given such generous access to, and remarkable service from Ovation / Kaman Corp.
A few months ago we decided to put together a 2006 calendar for ourselves featuring our own guitars. OFC member Designzilla(Steve), who works in graphic design, offered his professional services and assembled the photos that were submitted. These calendars will be sent throughout the United States and more than a few will end up in the UK and France. Enclosed is the end result of that project.
Kim, all of us who have used the factory service appreciate the top notch job that is done by your department. It is very clear that you and your service staff are fans of Ovation as much as any one of us.
We look forward to seeing you at the next tour. Keep that Adamas bass ready to go and please see if you can find us another guitar to smash.
Regards,
THE OVATION FAN CLUB |

I identified whose envelopes that where mailed non-prority and explained how that occurred. All I can say is that they are in transit. Let's see what tommorrow will bring. |

Well...very good!
German OFC member "Dude" is still waiting for his but I think we can now call this project complete.
One last thanks to everyone. It was a true group effort. Come August, if there is enough interest and Designzilla is up to the task, perhaps we can do it again.
But in the meantime, I have another idea...... wouldn't it be cool if .......on second thought, maybe I'll just hold on to that idea for a bit. :D |

Location: Orlando, FL | I'm glad everybody has theirs now. Thanks to everybody for all the positive feedback. I really enjoyed working on this calendar. And I have 12 months of great guitars to look at.
Brad did an incredible job of organizing this and making it happen.
I really appreciate the OFC, not just because of the entertaining, informative and weird posts and people here, but also because I've bought 3 great Ovations this year from OFC members! So I'm really glad that the calendar was able to benefit the OFC some financially. I can't even imagine the time and effort that must go into keeping this beast running this smoothly.
Thanks to Al and Miles for bringing us all together! And thanks to everybody else for all the laughs, the information and of course the guitars.
Happy New Year!
