Hmmmm, my job puts me in Charlotte, NC (for the MicroStation user conference, yeah, I know, cliff, MicroStation!) May 22th-25th.
I'll just have to make it a longer trip and go from Connect-i-cut to Car-o-lina then back to Texas...

"Hell, . . the more Brits the Merrier!!"

That is the opposite of what happens - more than one Brit and we start talking about the weather and get depressed.

Bongo Boy tells me he's remodelling that week so he's booked me into The Bates Motel, 11379 Sister Of The Bride Street, Congenital, Virginia. Apparently the room service is excellent and they have en-suite facilities.
Aaah, that Southern Hospitality. I can smell it from here.

Think we could get an OFC tour in as an "educational trip"? Then again, there are those 3 illegal days I can have off of school..... :) I don't want to miss it!

I can't beleive, even booking this early, how much it costs to fly from Detroit to New England. I could fly to the west coast for less.
It's a 10 hour drive for me but even with gas prices where they are I would save $120. And.. I can bring two guitars without haveing to worry about baggage handlers. I'm thinking on bringing the Breadwinner this year to give people who have never tryed one a chance to play.

Yep. I've actually found lower fares by taking longer routes. It's not so much about where you want to go, as it is about which seats they have trouble filling.

OK, for the newbies (not me), can someone list the details of getting TO the factory/hotel?

Which airport do I fly into?
Which hotel are we staying at?

Yeah, I know I can do a search of last years info (or find a map), but can someone list it for the others here (not me)?

I don't think he has a house. He just stays at gas stations in the area (hey -- he knows all the owners being a retired owner himself)

No, I sold the 59 caddy so there's no longer a guest suite available. My doublewide on the hill is 45 minutes the other side of the factory and there's no pool so Homewood Suites is the way to go.
Those booking flights into Bradley the airport identifier is BDL.

Hey, I don't want to miss it, but we'll see if John can convince the 'rents that it's that important. :) He's normally pretty good at that though. :)

I had a buddy who, back in the crazy days of college, worked for the local Porsche dealership and once had to run one over to a Buffalo dealership (about 150 miles due west).

Took him three days to get there.

Took his boss about 15 minutes to fire him when he got back.

I think you guys need a Cayenne Turbo. The headline would read something like, "Five drunken guitar players elude police in high speed chase with speeds over 150." My Boxster only holds 2 unless somebody can fit in the trunk. The Cayenne really handles well for an SUV. I've had a couple of them beat me on slalom courses.

Yes, but we are IMPATIENT! Why should we have to wait patiently when we can badger someone else to do something for us right now??? Its not like we can call the hotel and make reservations for OURSELVES!!! Sheesh.

Hopefully, there'll be some updated info with regards to booking for accommodations. Mrs. ignimbyte has been pushing with the idea of just making reservations in some hotel, then meet OFCers wherever. I disagreed with her of course! :D (hehehe...) :D

Dear Mrs.Ingimbyte,
I hear that you are concidering staying at a hotel other that the one offered, at reduced rates, to the OFC. Please know that the hotel lobby location is central to all the events that will be available. In fact, the hotel lobby will be where we will have at least two jam sessions. Unless the is an event being held off site you will always find OFC members gathering there. To stay elsewhere will cause you to miss a big part of weekend.
Regards,

Don't worry everyone, I have no plans of ruining my desire to be a part of the OFC gathering. Considering that this coming May is going to be my first ever.

If the occassion warrants it, I just might go solo on this road trip ...

Okay, I thought I had some internet saavy but I am mistaken.

Is it the Homewood Suites where most all stayed and Al has arranged a deal at?

What is the phone number and/or POC?
What was the room rate?
The airport is BDL.

Are there stiff deposit fees on beer bottles in CT?

Wait a minute - you guys put all six strings on at the same time? But then you'd have to play all of them at the same time!

I'm never gonna learn this freakin' thing!

What did he win the Mary Poppins award for? I need to know before I climb aboard the mule train from London to Ol Virginny. If he wears a suit made out of old drapes I'm not going.

Fred, last year it seemed like most started arriving between 6pm - 8pm. Some of us coming from the other end...? Depends on when we left. I'm taking the red-eye, leaving PDX around 10pm Weds and getting into BDL around 10:30am.
I'll be the one sleeping in the lobby until the staff is embarrassed into letting me check in early...

The problem we have here on the west coast is either you do what John does and leave Wednesday night to be there all day Thursday, or leave Thursday morning, and not get the until Thursday evening. If I was only driving 3-8 hours, or flying 2-3 hours, I'd be there mid to late Thursday afternoon. The lobby jam is always going strong when I arrive. But I gotta admit, it's fun to walk in to.

I prefer taking the red eye. Then I can catch up on sleep Thursday and be ready to keep the lobby staff up late.

Y'know, without having that scrolling "head count" across the bottom of the screen (like we used to have), it was kinda' hard to get a feel for where we "are" with this whole thing.

Had an email exchange w/Al the other day, and brought up the "head count"-thing . . .

You guys SUCK!

For the past three years it's been "Man!! I wish I went!!" "Wow!! now I wish I had GONE" "I'm gonna' go "NextYear" I'm DEFINITELY gonna go "NextYear" . . . blah, blah, blah, blah, BLAH!!!

HELLO!!!!!!
THIS is fucking Next YEAR!!!

Al, Miles, Rick, and everybody involved busted their ASSES to get the most "advance notice/lead time" that we've EVER had, as to NOT interfere with Vacations/Mother'sDay/Father'sDay/GroundHogDay, etc., and we STILL get a measley response??

I reiterate:
You Guys Suh-huh-HUH-huh-HUCK!!

This thing's NOT gonna get any "bigger" if it doesn't get . . . well, BIGGER!!!

Granted, it's easy for me to cast aspersions when I live within driving distance, but hey!! When the OFC-thing happened for Ovation's 40th at NAMM happened, I figured out a way t'get on a friggin' plane and BE there!!

I KNOW! It's not cheap. But you guys had SIX friggin' MONTHS "Lead Time" to work this out!!
(And that's not even TAKING into consideration the one's that said LAST year they were going THIS year!!!)

HERE's an idea:
Sit down with your families and say "Y'know what Good ol' Dad'd REALLY like this year for Father's Day??

SIGN UP!!!!
NOW!!!!
GO!!!

Did'ya ever stop t'think that if this thing just "stagnates", RickHall & Co. might just end up saying "Why bother??" It's a big expense, and a big undertaking for them. How's about reciprocating some gratitude and "effort"???

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing some old FRIENDS that I haven't seen in a year or so . . AND . . I'm REALLY looking forward to meeting some for the first time!!
To "Them" I say "Thanks Guys for making the Time/Effort, . . . we're gonna have a BLAST!!!

To the rest of You:

"Pussies."

While on the subject of TourDay:

Is there anyone else who's driving up/out that might be able to bring a goodly-sized beer cooler to be used as this year's Official OFC "Bar"??

I've got the big, stainless-steel Coleman that we've used the past couple years, but it may have to stay home this trip . . .

The Cruiser only has "so much" room, and with myself, Jeanette, Templeman, luggage, and a veritable plethora of guitars, (mine, Temp's cwk2's) I'm gonna be a bit pressed for space . . .

If anyone can help out, please lemme know.
It'l be GREATLY appreciated . . .

WorstCaseScenario:
We find the hotel laundry room and fill up one of the washers w/ice . . .

I've got an old steel sided Coleman that you can count on, Cliff. No idea what the actual size is but I know when it's full it's a two man job to move it. And when it's empty, it's usually cryin' time.

Al,
The Auditor in me wants to compare a list of those you have with a list of those that have gone before and those that are squawking about going.

Can you give us a number?

Is it mostly Fence-Sitters?

Here goes:
First of all I would love to attend the tour and meet all of you and jam, etc... As a matter of fact I am terribly jealous of all who will be there. However, circumstances will not allow me to attend.
Now, if you want to call me a pussy, suffice it to say I am a grown man, have raised a family, suvived open heart surgery,... well that's all my private life I'll go into now.
I have contributed to this fan club (I am listed on the site as a contributer), I've just bought a very sweet 12-str. from Al. Call me whatever you want but please don't compare my name in the fan club database to a factory tour signup sheet and use that information to deem if I am worthy of being a member or just being a pussy. Hasn't King George done enough of that?
Now go ahead... flame me.

OK Pussy.

Since I won't be there does that make me a pussy too? Is that kinda like being a male lesbian? I guess we'll have to check with Cliff....

It was all a taunt to relieve Al of his frustration. I think its more common in Jersey.

My guess is that an "average" Member makes 3.5 posts, the first being a classic "What my 1xxx-2 worth? Oh...,and then splits.

So anyone that goes further is abve average but not necessarily from Lake Wobegone!

Not to worry, I think I've helped Al's stress level today with a sweet little purchase :D

Congrats and welcome to a very small group...lots of others have had to plunk down deposits and will be waiting months to get theirs.

And, this way, you get a certificate. # 3 will forever be unrecognized...without certificate, an LX wrench, and shipped in merely a "molded", not "deluxe molded" case it deserved. The shame, the shame. :( :( :(

Seriously, Al made sure to place the first (or one of the first orders) to help the OFC get low numbers. It is to his credit that he got five of the first eleven made. Especially when you consider that some of the first were either used for major guitar shows or for the reps to demo.

Maybe Al will give me two certificates when he ships the one I am buying from him  :D

My post was an attempt (albeit futile) to shove, goad, shame, and possibly coerce those who might've been "sitting on the fence" into participating, having a good time, and getting the attendance number "up" . . .
(If y'check the History, I do it every year)

Personally, I could give to shits who goes/doesn't go, and for whatever reason/excuse . . .

I just know that I and the other attendees will be having a good time and having a great couple days, and if and when it ever comes to where OFC Day at the Factory "goes away" due to minimal response/participation, then we'll just "deal with it" then.

I just try t'do whatever I can . . . .

I missed the first tour by 2 weeks and had to wait a whole year until the next one. I had just purchaced my Adamas. Then found out about the OFC and saw all of the talk about a factory tour It would have been a really great experience to be able to talk to the people who had a part in making my guitar. Needless to say I made up for this starting with OFC 2004. I also have to arrange to be off from TWO jobs in order to attend the tour. So if you are on the fence about coming, I hope that my story will help you change yor minds and make an effort to come. The Tour/ hotel jam/ and Post tour jam is all that has been said about it and more.

I'm also looking forward to doing a little shopping while i'm there as well. G-bands from Paul and and a Tremelno or two from Al. Then since I know just how much the 'fellars dig the band sooooo much, I figure i'd do an ENTIRE Motley Crue UNPLUGGED set during the jam at the hotel.   :D
