Location: SoCal | You know, this is a beautiful guitar, but I'm a bit disappointed. Ovation could have put out a really cool and different Collectors, with the 12 fret slothead they showed. Now tell me how, really and truly, this guitar is different than the Collectors they've put out all thru the late 90's to the present? Sure, it's an LX, but basically, it's their regular Elite with a different top.
I think the boat was badly missed here. |

I mean the '87 collectors, to me doesn't look like anything special, but you pick it up and wow. This has the potential for that wow factor. Only bass side sound ports, and koa top, it will have more more mid range than mahogany but still have that sweetness. Could be great, I'll have to try it. |

Perhaps the 12 fret feature is not concidered desireable outside of the fan forums. Even though it a limited edition collectors they still need it to appeal to the masses.
I liked it when I played it. |

This is not a bad guitar. It should be quite good. But it could have been so much more....... |

Location: SoCal | Personally, I love the sound of a good Koa wood guitar...I have the Martin D25-K2 (top, sides, bottom). At the time, Martin made a few of the D25-K2's and some with the spruce top.
Doubt if there will be many guitars available to play in the stores. Unfortunately, unless someone has the ability to play it first, some will pass on it since it is not spruce.
Yes, would have been great as a slothead; also, nice wood for the trc but plain - could have said Collectors or something on it.
Beautiful guitar with the Koa top and ? tortoise shell binding. |

As for this guitar, I agree the proto type I saw in the pictures looked better. But we don't know what it sounds like, and it should be good. |

I would've probably prefered a single hole job. Each to his (or her) own, I guess. |

I wonder why they don't experiment with some different colored bowls to match the various tops? Perhaps dark blue bowl with the cobalt top, or a lighter brown with the wood tops, etc... or even try some different colored binding. A bright white binding tends to take away from a colorful top, sometimes making it look a bit cheaper. IMHO |

Also called, "Spanish Cedar". It's a tropical shade tree from Mexico, Central/South America.
Fairly light weight, aromatic...believe it or not, used in closets/trunks to protect clothes. |

For me, a big part of the fun is getting to try out new models. For that reason, I will reserve my judgement for the time I get to see and play one of these. |

I'm really disappointed on this one. |

We're also disappointed... :(

Location: Waxahachie, Tx | I always thought the concept behind the Collectors series, was to "separate novelty guitars from truly collectible instruments". Those are the words on the Ovation Collectors series page. I think this one looks bad, I mean whats so special about It. It really has no "O"utstanding visual attributes, but I have not played it so, really that may be the distinguishing characteristic that separates it from my "Novelty" guitar a 2004 1771LX-4.
Maybe they could laser etch Charlie Kaman's signature on the headstock, or maybe a picture of him looking up through the sound holes or Put a replica of Kim and johns eyeballs on the headstock so they can follow with the music or whomever is across from you, I mean make it Special. Make it a Collectible. I wish they would team up with NFL and make Team Guitars now your Talkin. The 2005 Collector should have been more in-line with something like the Custom Elite LX, Those look alot more collectible.
And today I went to the Local GC played one of their Standard Elites and man was it nice I will be ordering a Elite 1778LX-4 after Christmas that will be My 2006 Collector. |

I'm sure this plays better, but as moody put it, an average customer will probably think it's the same as the celeb they could get for hundreds less. |
