What was the first Ovation that you played in 2006?

I debuted my Limited D12 at church this a.m. for "arise King of Kings", Praise you with the Dance", Indescribable" and "Wonderful Maker".

FD14 in church today. Kind of odd not having controls on the guitar but great comments on the sound thru the p.a.

Just practiced with my good ole balladeer today (plugged in) -- fresh from the shop for repairs. Fortunately, the mothership referred me to an authorized service shop not so far away from my house, before considering shipping it over to them. The guy who worked on it did a fantastic job! :)

My Custom Balladeer. It's what I took to the cabin, where we rang in the new year with it, my daughter's Celebrity Deluxe and a Martin and a Monterey.

My 1858 12-string.

I got home last night from dinner at my mother's, and just felt the need.

I have a good feeling that it's a good year coming up. Enjoy, one and all.

Elite Long Neck. I'm just practicing "More than words" from Extreme. Too high for singing and so one step down makes it more comfortable to me.

My 1885 12-string, had it out to lemon oil the fretboard. After getting it all pretty, couldn't resist the urge to play it (the U681T has been getting all the attention lately).
Four hours straight, my fingers hurt, my throat's sore from singing, my daughter wants to move out because dad's lost it, and the Mrs. is grinning from ear to ear.
Looking to be a GREAT year !!

The old 1537 (Adamas in for the action job) at Church. Let's see....

Lord Reign in Me, Your Grace is Enough, In Christ Alone, All Creatures of our God and King, Grace like Rain, I Give you my Heart.

Three new songs for us in a single Sunday, but I told the Congregation that "Hey...it's a new Year, time to stretch a bit". They did admirably well, and the old 1537 got the job done again.

Cool, Jeff. 1581 for me, sounded fantastic even though I dicovered 1/2 way thru my eq sliders were all down...
What are the odds that we'd both choose "All Creatures" on the same Sunday?
Also - I Exalt Thee, Indescribable, Beautiful One, God of Wonders, How Great Is Our God and Heart of Worship. :D

The 1758 that my amazing wife got me for Christmas. Led worship in church. Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble, O Worship The King, I Want To Be Where You Are, Days of Elijah, Strong Tower, Be Thou My Vision. I was like playing an orchestra - AMAZING!

Kind of neat...sounds like we all have the same songs in our worship arsenal. Neat to see folks doing a lot of the same music on the same day and all with Ovations no less. Wonder if Ovation would let us put together a "Worship" special edition? Hmmmmmm Instead of the strange symbology of Melissa Ethridge and planets like the Millenium, maybe a cross or fish or two.

Seems like Ovations used in worship represent a pretty strong cross-section of Ovation/Adamas owners?

Running late as usual...

...yesterday we still did a couple Christmas numbers (anyone realize that this week is still the Christmas season - and Friday is the day of Epiphany?), but began the service with Rich Mullins "Step by Step" - good song to start the new year with!

Oh yeah, played my lefty 1777 black Legend.

The first (and only O I have right now) was the 1868. Believe it or not, the 'Twinkle Twinkle' thing in the 'Day Job' thread has me doing my ear training by working out a fingerstyle chord-melody for that particular tune. My wife laughs because I get frustrated...whodathunk a nursery rhyme would be so challenging.

Had to think about it,but the first O I playe this year was my Elite Special. I played "Never going back again". It just happened to be the case I opened first. No special reason.

Llafishma? No, wait isn't she a singer.

Btw, can one of our worship people here please tell me what the heck the deal is with the fish anyway? I see them stuck on cars and was told that those people are strong christians. That's cool, but I have no idea what the connection is between jesus and a fish. I'm not poking fun of relegion, I'm just curious what the fish means.

Thanks.

Boy - throw you guys a bone and you're like pirahna. At least I'm rarely disappointed.

As for the fish, I've always connected it with the parable of how Jesus said "Give a man a fish and he can eat but teach him how to fish and he'll never hold a real job again." or something like that. 'Course they've refused to let me back in the Church for years now so I'm not really sure.

Weaser now owes me one glass of palatable cabernet and one white t-shirt with blue cuffs and neck and Quiksilver logo.

I always thought it was related to the 'make you fishers of men' story. Although I only make a hobby of comparative religious study, not a practice. ;)

As I understand it, the fish refers to the "fishers of men" verse and the symbol was used by early Christians to identify each other secretly to avoid persecution.

The fish symbol comes from Matthew 4:18-20 "18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
NIV

I agree, catch and release still does apply.

During the late 80s VW 'Fahrvegnugen' (spelling?) thing, I had picked up a T-shirt from a street vendor in Toronto (man, I love that town) that I *thought* said, 'FunkenGruven' with the cutesy little umlauts over the 'u's. I wore it proudly for a couple of months before my mother, of all people, pointed out that there was no 'n' before the 'k.'

Sorry, the bumper sticker reminded me of that.

I'm a huge Toronto fan too, Cruster. Went up for a Blue Jays game this summer and fell in love all over again. What a great city. Ironically, that's one of the things I love about Syracuse - it's a cheap little city but I'm only a few hours away from Toronto, NYC, Bahston, Philly, Saratoga, the Finger Lakes - I could go on but this is really a great place to be.

I know it's probably very bad form to quote yourself [keep it clean, please - it's a family show], but I've just realised how wrong I was.

I was playing a NYE party at a local public house of debauchery, which went on after midnight, so technically the first one I played this year was my Tornado.

Strangely for me, though, "today" as a frame of reference doesn't finish until I get up the following morning. So I'm right on both counts. I have no desire to start any philosophical discussion on "today", and accept no responsibility for other peoples ideas that inevitably follow!

JB

ps - interesting discussion on the fish. Educational reading, nice one all!
