Custom Legend 1619 on Ebay
To quote the guy who listed it -
"The sound of the guitar will not be affected that much (with the hole) And there is some logic in "keeping" the original top... It has aged and sounds better, NOW, than the day it was made... It really just needs to be played... As for holes in the top of guitar... Look at Willy Nelsons hole in his acoustic guitar, they nicknamed it the "Grand Canyon" and it doesn't seem to bother him one bit..." |

That is not just a "hole". That is a disaster!

| Doesn't that make you want to similarly customize your own guitar? |

Location: closely held secret | Not only is the opening bid high, but I checked the shipping... $79 UPS ground. Nice little profit on the side from that, as well. |

If you guys email the seller I'm sure he might put those features in the listing. :D |

It takes a lot of nerve to auction off something that broke as a good guitar. |

Location: Miami | You guys crack me up. I came across the auction on ebay and decided that I got to have it. Not for the price though. Turns out they are in Miami :-) Called them up and went over to check out the guitar. Instantly, love at first sight. Told them I have seen the guitar up for auction the past 6-7 months and has not sold. Worked something out and ended up paying $200 clean.
Now, after all this, I just purchase my first guitar, a custom legend 1619 with a 2nd sound hole. Bought some new dean markley strings and a beginner guitar book. The sound is very good and mellow and holds on to a note for a while. That is not all, just look at it it's a precious. Everyday I look forward to playing the guitar. It is fun just running some scales.
Now I want to know what else I can do the guitar? Maybe new pickups, or have fixed the broken piece into place? Decided to turn to the pros. Can you help? |

The Custom Legend is among the finest guitars in the entire Ovation line, and older 1619's (in decent shape) often sell on eBay for several hundred dollars more than what you paid for yours, so congratulations!
If you really love the guitar as much as much as your post suggests, I'd seriously consider contacting Kim Keller or John Budney at Ovation Customer Service and discussing with them the possibility of having a new top put on. It's not as expensive a proposition as you might think, and at the end of the day you have a vintage, US made Ovation in like-brand-new condtion for a total investment of well under a grand. It's something to consider.
Again, welcome to the forum and keep pickin' :) |

Location: Miami | Thanks for the welcome. I will call Ovation on replacing the top. Looking back at the pictures is sure does no justice for it. Anyways, I will try and get some real time pictures and see what you recommend.
Peace |

Location: Central Florida | Hey Rebel,
In what part of Miami do you reside? I was born, raised and spent the first 35 years of my life there. I grew up in the area known (then) as Westchester. I don't think they call it that anymore, but the house I grew up in was between Coral Way and Bird Road (N to S), and Galloway Road and SW 97th AV (E to W). |

Location: Miami | Jeff, that area is still called Westchester. Close by to Tamiami Park. Nice quiet neighborhood. I am in North Miami on west side of 95. Raised here since I can remember but not born. How is Central FL? |
