Location: Waurika OK | On November 23, my urologist called and informed me that my prostate biopsy showed that I had prostate cancer. Not a great day, but not totally unexpected, my PSA was 80.
CT scan showed none in any organs. Right before Christmas he called back to report that bone scan showed 3 spots that he felt was prostate cancer in the bone. Not a good day, but we have not despaired at all.
This meant that surgery to remove the prostate and radiation was no longer an option.
We had a face to face today and I will start hormone therapy next week.
This is not to whine, my outlook is positive and the doctor feels that I have years ahead of me.
Only time will tell.
What this is about:
ALL YOU GUYS OVER 50 - GET A YEARLY DRE & PSA TEST! DON'T PUT IT OFF!
And now, back to your regularly scheduled fan club stuff. |

Sorry to hear what you are facing and I agree on your advice. Working around reactors for 25 years it was our running joke that we had to get the finger wave on an annual basis. Best to find out early.
If you need someone to vent to or share with or just to know they care enough to listen count myself and many others here in. I don't have the answers but we are here. Life is hard but God is good. |

Will keep you in our prayers. Also would like to dedicate this week's Offertory song to you, we happen to be playing "It is Well With My Soul". Divine providence I suppose...the song sums it up pretty well somehow.
Just up the road if you need anything. Still hoping to do some hunting in your neck of the woods before quail season ends.
Take Care,

By the way, almost forgot to tell you, one of my good friends from our church and hunting buddy is a Urologist here in Norman. If you need a second opinion on anything let me know and I'll set you up with Phil. He's a great guy and a fantastic surgeon.

I turn 50 on the 24th of next month.
The impending thought of being tested has been nagging at me. You just convinced me to make an appointment for as soon as I get back from the cruise. Thanks for that.
I'd like t'say that I'll be thinking about you when I go for it, but that . . . . wouldn't sound right
GodSpeed, Buddy.

| Lots of people thinking about you, so hang on in there. It really isn't the end of the world, tho it can feel like it. Playing an Ovation 3 times a day is a great medicine. Best wishes from the old world. |

I haven't been for a physical in ~16 years. I had one scheduled for this month, but it was the same day my wife was scheduled for surgery, so I cancelled. The soonest they could get me back in is March. I figure I've waited this long, what's another eight weeks. Now you have me wondering... |

Gabriel told Mary that nothing is impossible with God. He knew what he was talking about, and we've seen the truth plenty enough times. Hold on! |

When I turned fifty (this year) told my Dr. I wanted the PSA. He said I was too young and healthy :D to worry about it.
I insisted anyway, to get a 'base line' measurement to compare later results. On that basis he agreed with me.
Get it early, for later reference. It's kinda like recon before the battle. |

Glad some are seriously going to make that appointment.
We are real optimistic about the future.
Mike, It Is Well With My Soul, is one of my favorite hymns. The story behind the lyrics is great: the man who wrote them had lost a daughter to a ship wreck, as he later traveled on another ship, the captain slowed down near the spot where her ship had gone down. As he gazed over the rail at the sea, the idea for the song came to him. It is a wondereful song.
Again, thanks to all and it is going to work out fine. |

You will most certainly be added to our prayer list and in our thoughts. Thanks so much for thinking of others at a time when you need to make sure you are thinking of what's best for you.
God Bless. |

| For those of you who are about to get tested, maybe you should look at some stuff published today in the US journal Archives of Internal Medicine by John Concato of the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Healthcare System and Yale University.
In the UK (and in most of Europe I think - not absolutely sure) the idea of regular testing in otherwise healthy men has never caught on with the medical profession.
I don't have a web link to the article as I read about it in good old newsprint over my lunch. I'm sure you guys can find it. It's very interesting. |

Lots of prayers going up for you here, too.
I've had a recent brush with the big "C" myself (colon cancer) and nothing rocks your world like hearing that word applied to you or a loved one. But, let me add to what others have already said (and I know you know), God IS good and He is faithful, and He WILL bring you through this. It sounds like it was detected early... Praise God for that!
When my cancer was discovered it was a stage three, meaning that if it had gone undetected much longer, I probably wouldn't be here posting about it now. It always reminds me that when it comes to answered prayers, or even just regarding His daily watchcare, God may not show up early, but He's NEVER late. Hang in there, brother, God's not through with you yet!
If you ever want some encouragement from someone who's "been there," don't hesitate to contact me.

I can only repeat what the others have already said, and as a recreational Cyclist in the past I was always a participant in many a bike rally designed to aid Cancer treatment and research. I was always amazed at the survivors, Hundreds.(Riders wore tags on their jerseys, survivor, etc.)truly inspirational. One of my co-workers last year was diagnosed with bone cancer he is in full remission and has been for the past 6 months. Todays approach is much more aggressive and information is available.
