Though I didn't have the cash or inclination to chase this one this really was a pretty good buy given what this would cost new.

Dont mind me but something isnt right with that Ebay auction????? Ritchie until recently always had 12 over six doublenecks???? That guitar reminds me of a guitar recently built and may have had the custom label put in ???? I wonder if it is someone pretending to be???? You all know the black and white one plus the tripleneck he used on those tours??? Where the hell did this one com from??? Maybe im wrong??/

Also the star between the two necks is stuck on....weren't the stars on Richie's inlaid?

If you look close at the label it's wrinkled and torn (at the "New Hartford") like it has been removed, signed, then reinstalled!

.....but then again maybe not!

(I also thought that Richie's dualnecks had a wider "V" seperation of the necks making the two bridges almost touch!)

I've done a little research on this guitar... Richie actually had two identical doublenecks with this finish made. One was donated to the R&R Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the other was sold for charity. Richie always added the MOP stars to his doublenecks I'm told.
I know of one custom ordered black doubleneck (#21) that had the MOP star made into the face of the guitar for Steve Fangadakis of One Light Burning band. From what I've been told from Steve (who knows Richie), Richie had about 18 doublenecks in all made. Most were black, at least one yellow with vines inlays on the necks, and one dark red with stars on the necks.
Mine was a custom order and the guy I got it from also said he had a Green and I think purple one made as well.

Is this the actual Sambora doubleneck that was actioned off?, only Fugot will be able to tell us that after running the serial number through the mothership I would think.

Hi,

I remember this guitar.
It was sold on Ebay for around 4500/5000$ (Feb 23,2005).
Chris Salisbury (in UK) was the previous owner of this guitar but I don't remember who was the buyer.
I've got a photo of Richie holding this guitar in his arms but I never published it on the site because I never had the authorization to use it!!

It's strange that the actual seller is using photos from the site...
Maybe he don't have a digital camera???
He wrote these words in the description:
Again this guitar is in the same condition I received it from Richie...
It's stange too because I don't think he never met Richie...

Very strange...

J :)

hey all,
First, thanks to everyone who is watching my back on this one. Please know, I will not be cutting a check for this guitar without holding it in person. I have emailed the seller for serial #, how and when it was bought and who wrote the ebay description and took the photos.
We will see what they say.

Also i have been contacted by the previous owner who bought it from 'chris' who bought it from 'Richie'. Both deals were brokered by Rockstarguitars (www.rockstarguitars.com). {check out the pictures} according to the last owner, this guitar was sold by him for $20k after he bought it from 'chris' for $9k. He said he believed the guitar is now in Europe.

To be or not to be, that is the question. I mean I know I am educated beyond my intelligence, but even I can see no matter how much you shine bullsh*t, it's still bullsh*t.

thanks again for everyones help, Ill keep you posted.

PS, If you see a minivan full of guitars heading west in January of 2007, that's me. peace mike

Have a good trip Waskel and be safe. Sidewalks and roofs in Oregon always have mold on them. I've had to scrape it off my folks' house. It has been wet here, though. Even snowed once, but we'll just let all those other guys think the Northwest is a crummy place to live.

Hey all,
quick update. Seller emailed me back answers to my questions. They stated in the email that they took the pictures in their backyard a few days ago, that they bought the guitar in Europe last summer and gave me a serial number that did not match guitar, unless it was built in the 1970's or early 1984. Needless to say, I informed Ebay.
One other thing, this morning another bidder emailed me explaining that they were sent a second chance offer from offer. (I told them of my concerns.) Lesson learned here, if it's to good to be true, it just might be. Again, thanks to all who watched out for me and an OFC member in general. peace, mike

oh yeah, DVD,

when sniping on ebay, open up two windows. One to watch the auction and to keep 'refreshing ' the screen while watching the seconds tick down. the other screen you type in your bid. you know the way ebay works is , you type in your bid, hit continue/enter, and then you are asked to confirm this. well just leave it there until near 10 seconds (by watching first screen) and then hit enter. Doesn't everyone do this??? peace mike

Yup, thanks, that's pretty much the process. I just had never seen one come down to the second like that.. figured you had software or something. Glad to hear no money changed hands on this one.. I'd love to have been seen the sellers expression when you called him on the carpet!

I just use a clock. I determine where the second hand is when the auction is gonna end then bid just before that. I almost always hit within just a few seconds.

I have software that snipes for me. Set the bid, set the time of snipe, then go off to work, play, drink, whatever and come back later to see if I have won.

PS...I have NEVER lost a bid based on timing but I have lost a few where someone was willing to pay more than me.

That's the great thing about entering the info and then leaving. I am analytical when I decide what I am willing to bid and since I am not around when the bidding ends, I can't get emotional and pay more than intended.

Yeah I just saw this. I give up. the last communication between myself and seller was when they emailed back that they took those photos and gave me a serial number that read 04xx84. I guess ebay will claim they are only a marketplace, not a referee. as usual, it is buyer beware.

BTW slippery when wet came out in august/1986, tour was all of 1987. But remember elites only started in 1983, somehow, I don't think a D768 was built when only 1537/1547/1538's were being built at that time. And that is only if you look at that serial number as being a month/day/year combo (april/xx/84) I am leaving the middle two blank, seller did give me full serial number. of course taken literally this serial number puts the build date in the 1970's. Maybe I should bid again?? and get it for a lower price

Way to go FUGOT , You beat the scammer at his own game . I think that E-Bay may still charge him a fee for the listing and pictures , and at least it informs E-Bay that he mis represented his item and it might cost him a couple of bucks anyway . Oh well on the lighter side of things I am currently selling the body of the original vampire bat that Ozzie Osborne bit the head off at a concert in 1971 . If anyone is interested please contact me with a bid . GWB

Just curious, but could the factory be of any help in authenticating this guitars serial# ? I used to have my guitars setup by Ritchie's guy (Rod Schopfer-sp?) here in NJ when he had his Kramer endorsement. He used to have just about every guitar Ritchie owned in there with a log of the serial #'s. They had a falling out and he's since retired, but I know Rod would have had it.

I just read an article (ny times perhaps) about Ebay and fraud. It's fairly rampant on some items (antique jewelry for example). The gist of the article is that ebay is a company that brings buyers and sellers together (that's there expertise) and not a company that can authenticate everything sold in the marketplace. (hope that makes sense) Basically , they are the stadium for the game and not the referee of the game.

As to this guitar, I emailed Ebay my concerns, Haven't heard a word from ebay or seller since. You get what you pay for, and sometimes you pay for what you get. (or don't get) sometimes coffeee is good too. mike

Seller must have had alot of questions about his relisting 'cause he's added "Relisted due to unpaid buyer" to the description.....making Fugot look like a deadbeat bidder!

Seller also states in the last paragraph of the description...."Ebay seems riddled with scammers & timewasters nowadays".....Yeah,this jackass ought to know!

I've sent an email to the seller.
I've asked him why he's using the photos from the site??
And why he don't used his own photos if he's the actual owner of this guitar???
Not sure to have a reply...
If I've got a reply, maybe could you help me for the translation because I don't understand all the insults in English... :D :D :D

I think it is a highjacked account. Notice that the original seller has a 100% feedback rating but has not participated on ebay since 2001......then suddenly activity.

Looks like the listing was pulled less than 3 hours before close, thanks, no doubt, to others in this thread reporting to Ebay. I was considering Ebay-messaging the bidders and pointing them to this thread, but worried I might be violating Ebay policy.
