Location: Columbus, OH | I haven't purchased an Ovation since my Custom Legend, but I look at the new models from time to time. I was in Guitar Center for some picks (they didn't have what I wanted) when I saw the red flame screaming my name. I lusted after one since seeing one in the factory a couple of years ago. The guitar was on "clearance" and an orange one next to it was over $400 more. So, I bought it and have 30 days to think it over.
What's the deal with these Guitar Center specials Elites? How are they different from the 1778T-RF?
How are they different from the Elite T?
Was the list price really 1749???
And this one has an OP30 while the orange one had an OP-Pro. Did someone switch it? Which is better?

Location: Anchorage, Alaska | Is your's painted with flames all the way around? I'm not sure of the price differences but the one I bought new last year has the OP-Pro, LX upgrades, and the wrap around flame job. Sure is a nice guitar. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | What you have is an Elite T with a really cool paint job instead of the std. black bowl paint all the way around. Some flame T's just have flames on top while others have flames all the way around. The older ones (how old can they really be?)were pre-LX...no trussrod cover. People keep trying to figure out the rules for the T's, but you can't 'cause this model is designed by the factory to give them lots of creative license. They make all kinds of feature combinations at all kinds of prices. It's kind of fun because you have a lot to choose from. As for the preamps, the Op pro is a re-packaged Op-30 with an EQ shift button. Hope you enjoy the guitar Dave! John <>{ |

Location: Columbus, OH | So, if mine has the truss rod cover that means it has the LX technology? It certainly feels like a lighter Ovation and the acoustic sound is better than others I've played and much better than my Custom Legend.
This is one of the guitar center versions with the matching flame headstock. Pretty cool. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I assume it is without case. I didn't pay a lot of attention. It just caught my eye that they would have these guitars sitting right in your face as you walk in the door (that's good), and I couldn't help but notice the low price. That was about 10 days ago, so not sure if they still have any. At that price I would assume they would sell pretty quickly. Dave |

Location: Utah | David, my daughter has the identical guitar. She prefered the op-30 to the op-pro for both the sound and the layout of the buttons, so that's what we got.
We did a lot of internet searching and found that the GC versions seem to not have the bowl painted, which to me is a big plus. The standard bowl is not slippery, and I think that the glossy bowl might be hard to keep from slipping around.
It seemed also that the cherry red version might be an older version and the orange red version might be the newer ('06?) version. I base this statement on the info on Ovation's website. It looks like they migrated to the op-pro recently for all the flame versions. So, as a guess the cherry red is '05 and the orange-red is '06.
Both the cherry red and the orange-red at Guitar Center carried the GC model number as opposed to the 1778T model number. I think that the painted bowls are all 1778T model numbers. In other words, if you buy a GC model you get the standard black bowl, and if you buy the 1778T model you get a glossy painted bowl.
As far as I can tell, the GC model is the same construction as the 1778T model. They are both Elite T's. |

I originally bought this guitar to give him an incentive to practice. He also picked out a guitar strap :) .This photo is from OFC 2004.
He told me last summer that he no longer has interest in learning to play the guitar. :( |

Location: Columbus, OH | I've been gigging quite steadily with my red flame Elite T since January and it's just been perfect. We're talking about winding down the full band and doing mostly the acoustic thing next year (much less crap and people to deal with, but I do love to plug an electric into an amp and wank). I saw that GC and MF are now blowing out the orange sparkle hot rod flame ones and the photos show an OP Pro. $699 including shipping and case. I ordered one as a backup. Or maybe the new #1 if the pickup is that much better. |
