. . . everytime I cruised by the booth t'see how Temp was holding up, he was constantly getting a goodly amount of attention (granted, he WAS in a dress) . . . seriously, it looked like things were going well for him and the lads, and I'm quite pleased for him. |

I would like to get a set of those. The website says out of inventory and I couldn't find a price.
Any OFC Specials? |

Then, the full, lucious chords attracted a fair number, including two separate visits by Acoustic Guitar.
Went down to their area several times...always someone getting the demo.
I think Colin (inventor/innovator) has a hit with these.
They indicated that they had switched to overseas production and should have them in within a couple of days.
The website allows you to send your email - they will notify you as soon as they have the inventory. |

Location: Scotland | Just about over the Jetlag. This was the first NAMM I’ve attended as an exhibitor rather than a buyer, and it’s a whole different experience. It was a little weird being tied to the booth rather than wandering as I felt like it. And it was a little unnerving demoing to the likes of Will Ray, Matt Smith, Bobby Cochrane, Harvey Reid and Thom Bresh (Matt, Bresh & Reid loved the G-band) Lost my voice after the first day and had several run-ins with the NAMM noise police.
Anyway, on behalf of Colin and Jim from G-band I’d like to say a huge thank you to Messers Moody & Wong, who provided transport, booth furniture, a fantastic Bose sound system and the wonderful “Book” Viper. Without your help the whole exercise would have been a major pain in the ass. The good news is that we have several major US distubutors, including Kaman, interested in the G-band and have interest from distributors in Europe, Austrailia and Japan. Bose visited the booth to take pics of us using Michael’s system which they are going to post on their user forum, and they’ve promised to loan us a system if we exhibit at Frankfurt. If any OFC members want to try a G-band Miles will have some stock for the OFC store as soon as we have it from the new factory. Price will be around 10 bucks.
Once again it was great to hang around with the gang. The jam session at Paul’s place was a lot of fun (the ride home wasn’t, some idiot pulled out in front of us on the 5 and nearly wiped out myself, Al and Michael) It was great to put faces to names (Tony, Bruce, Fred) And it was a honour to be invited to the Ovation 40th bash.
After spending 4 days playing Michael's Viper I've gotta have one. Al, keep an eye out for me, or if anyone has one for sale, let me know. I have a Deacon 12 or an Adamas SMT to trade. |

Location: Scotland | Weaser, the G-band is limited only by your imagination, but not by your musical ability. If you can strum a handful of chords the G-band can add something to your playing. You don't need to understand music theory, or be a hot player, just select a note on the first string with the g-band and strum or pick some chord shapes. As long as the note selected is related to the key/chords you play then you'll get "extended" chord voicings that you couldn't tune to or physically reach. Some combinations work better than others, but it's pretty intuitive. Working with the G-band on the 6th string is a whole other thing and a lot of fun. Then there's the 2 string version. Then there's the simulated open tunings thing. Then there's using actual open tunings with the G-bands. Then there's combining the G-bands with other partial capos such as the Shubb or 3rd Hand. It's endless, I came up with 3 or 4 new things during the course of the NAMM demos. At one point I had 3 capos on the guitar at the same time!
Sorry if I sound like a friggin' salesman, I just think it's a really neat gizmo. |

Location: Scotland | Fortunately not. At a trade show or guitar show I can do that demo in my sleep, so I thought it would be a breeze to shoot the video. How wrong I was. Performing to a couple of cameras, with no interaction with an audience is a whole different thing. We shot almost 2 hours to get 10 useable minutes. The outtakes are never gonna see the light of day! |

Location: Scotland | The Bose guys have posted a pic of the G-band booth on their user forum, showing Michael's (Playadamas) Bose L1 system and his book Viper, both of which he graciously loaned us for the duration.
http://bose.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/4806048934/m/43010660...
They say: "I first noticed this when I stumbled across the “Woodies G-band” booth. You can see the system (barely) to the right of their banner. I was walking down the show when I heard this great sounding guitar coming from down the aisle. It was clear and clean and seemed to cut through the din of the show"
Can't let the sound system take all the credit. As the saying goes, you can't polish a turd. The fact that there was a KILLER guitar plugged into the L1 was a major factor in why it sounded so good. But, the superb omni-directional performance of the L1 probably accounts for why we got so much grief from the NAMM noise police. Despite the fact that I was at a level where I could easily talk to booth visitors over my playing without having to raise my voice, they were constantly asking us to turn down. |

Paul is right, you could hear him play from an aisle away, yet clearly hear his description of the product through the demo.
And the assistance of a good friend. Great promo for Ovation and Boise, thanks to Michael. Heard a couple of guys talking about how good the Ovation (Viper) looked and sounded as they walked away. |

Great demo.
Can you give me some details on the guitar you used in the booth and in the demo.
What about lead time in the UK. Do you have them in stock? Can I order from your web site.

Location: Scotland | Thanks Piers, The guitar I used on the NAMM booth was Michael Wong's 30th Anniversary "Book" Viper. (Model EA68-Ltd?) I use pretty heavy strings, but because I was going to be playing for 4 days, for almost 7 hours a day I restrung with extra lights (John Pearse Strings, kindly donated by Mary Faith at Breezy Ridge, great strings) Despite the drop in gauge the Viper still sounded huge. You can EQ in as much low end as you'd ever need and it just refuses to feedback.
The guitar on the video is my own Adamas SMT. I wanted to use microphones rather than the pickup and that guitar records well. We wanted to keep the mikes out of shot, so there's a coincident pair of Beyer Dynamic small diaphragm condensers a few inches above my head, pointing down towards the guitar. Incidentaly, that guitar is for sale.
The NAMM show cleaned out almost all the current stock, The G-bands should be available again by the end of the month. RUMC may have a few G-band 1's in the next few days. I'll let you know. |
