Just happened to flip on 'Classic Concerts' on VH1 Classic and there's Cynid Lauper playing away on a deep bowl Elite. It looks just like mine, 'cept for the bowl depth. Looks like she has Alanis Morissette singing with her.

Interestingly, the Elite must be open tuned because she's just strumming away, and occasionally barring all the strings at about the fifth fret (hey, it's the Potsy chord!).

Cyndi also plays mountain dulcimer in a similar manner. Barre chording a mountain dulcimer across the fret board in the two major tunings, DAD or DAA, is a proper valid power chord.

My observation from watching her concert DVD is that she sets up her instruments to play in a simple manner so she can concentrate on singing.

I saw Cyndi Lauper awhile back doing a Christmas Special with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She sang lead on a couple songs and WOW is she an amazing vocalist. On this one song she held onto this power note for what seems like five minutes or so.

It's easy to overlook people like Cyndi Lauper but from what I've heard she is one of the best female vocalists in the business.

I think people writ her off because of her appearence. I saw her live twice back in Phily and she was great. She did a spot with The Hooters (not this time fellers, The Hooters were a band) She's got a killer set of pipes and she writes great songs.

No, no, I wasn't complaining. I have no problem...she was actually playing, for Pete's Sake! That alone is rare enough, that I can overlook the simplicity of the open tuning. :) I actually thought her songs in the 80s were lyrically clever and musically 'hip.' Yeah, I'm old, so what?
