Location: Pa | Hi, I'm new to Ovation, bought my first last week. I own a couple Martins and other brands and was out looking for a new guitar, at first a travel guitar , but they were all to small.. anyways went to 4 stores last week and this Celebrity spoke to me, I tried to resist but couldnt...after 1 week I really like her...CK047-FKOA... my question is does Ovation make any 12 fretters ? or affordable 12 fretters ? I saw the Josh White model which is expensive...I'm a fan of 12 fretters and have 2 Marint 12 fretters. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | There aren't any current regular production 12-fret Ovations that I am aware of. You could possibly order one custom from the factory.
I have a 1981-vintage 1118 Glen Campbell 12-string....it's a 12-fretter.

Location: Scotland | Current production 12 fret 6 strings are the Josh reissue and a single Adamas model (U681T-5) There's also the Legend 1773LX nylon string. There was a variation of the 12-fret Adamas at NAMM but it's not showing on the Adamas website yet.
1614 Folklores crop up on ebay regularly. They are essentially the "first" Josh White reissue. They're great guitars if you like wide-neck slothead 12 fretters, and can be had for very reasonable money.
You are not alone in your preference for 12 fret guitars. Many OFC members including myself are 12 fret afficionados. I custom ordered a 12-fret Ovation a few years ago because there was nothing in the regular production that really suited me at that time |

Location: Flushing, MI | Just what, pray tell, is the attraction to the 12 fret over the 14 fret model? It seems it would be a serious annoyance for anyone who wants to venture into the land of the 12th fret, E position. I can't imagine what the advantages are, unless it's something to do with where the harmonics fall along the string......

Location: Phoenix AZ | 12 fretters require the bridge is moved back towards the tail of the guitar. This puts it in a much more ideal location on the soundboard. All things being equal (they never are) a 12 fretter will sound better than a 14 fretter. |

Location: Pa | Tnx, theres a 1614 on Ebay right now i think ill watch, The Celebrity I bought sounds great...a little tweaking of the neck and a fresh set of PB's and I happy..and to answer the question on 12 fretters, Ive always found the bass response, string tension and balance better. |

PS - I just had a great idea for an invention. A two piece plastic sleeve, each piece is 180 degrees of a tube. And each piece has a string hole through the middle of the side. You put these on the metal barrels of your steel string folklore guitar if you want to string it up with ball end nylons. The string wrapping around the 2 pieces holds them in place creating a classical sized barrel. |
