Deacon pickups...

I'm new to this board, but I'm working on making an Ovation Deacon (a circa 1975-77 one) playable again. The guitar came to me having had its original pickups, the Ovation mini-humbuckers removed and replaced with some DiMarzio humbuckers (for which the person who did the replacement broke the pickguard). I've got a new pickguard and new switches and knobs from Ovation (thanks a LOT Ovation! You guys rule.). I have two problems remaining. 1) I need to put in new pickups and 2) I need a battery cover plate. I've looked pretty hard on #2 there and I'm beginning to be of the opinion that I will have to fabricate something (although if anyone has a spare they'd like to sell, please let me know). As for #1, I've been looking at the Seymour Duncan Vintage Mini-Humbuckers. I like the sound of them, and they fit the stock holes in my new pickguard. Has anyone out there tried these pickups in a Deacon or Breadwinner, and, if so, do you have any suggestions or caveats you'd care to share with me? Keep in mind, I'm not _restoring_ this guitar. I'm making it playable again because I love the look of it, the feel of the neck, etc. Having a pristine factory perfect Deacon is a lot less important to me than building a great guitar out of this critter. Gary - You and I will get along just fine! Welcome to the club. I just obtained a running set of Pups and circuit board for a Breadwinner - so they do show up from time to time. I have a Limited 12 running Seymour Phat Cats - a Humbuck shaped P90. I also have a Deacon running Air Nortons with a couple of switching options. Running some SB106's on a Viper too. So far I like the Phat cats - use 500k pots. Check out my Gallery and see a couple of Refinished units. Stock is wonderful but if it ain't there go nuts!
