Location: Thailand | I just won the bid on ebay item # 7387336352 My dream comes true! Could you tell me further details about this one? 1. A reasonable price? 2. What different are between Adamas I in market and Adamas I custom ordered by Glen Campbell from Ovation factory at that time? 3. Adamas I for recordings in studios and Adamas I in market, special sound picks? Thank you.

I especially wanted to thank you for your great pictures of your 1977 1114. I just bought a 1614 from ebay. Most people including the owner thought it had tuners that were made for nylon strings, but yours and mine have the same tuners with black posts. Later 1614s had narrower chrome posts. Maybe they changed them after 1977. |

Thank you. Now I am not sure,it is the custom ordered by Glen Campbell. If not,a reasonable price is only $2500. May anyone ask Glen for the truth!?...

Povation, there are a ton of photos in your album and that represents a lot of work getting them there. May I suggest one more thing you might do? Create different folders for them within your photo album. The smaller groupings of photos will load faster and be easier on our computers (hey, specifically MY computer!). I do want to look thru your photos..... |

Location: 6 String Ranch | On the machine heads. The wider black posts were classic heads. They were used for a year or two or three. One inventory item was easier than two and the folklore was such small numbers. This was also from the time when all keys had the Ovation logo on them. Once the great and brilliant decision (ouch, that hurt my arm)was made to just use keys with Schaller's logo, as if anyone was fooled and thought Ovation made their own keys(!!!) inventory management was much easier and we could buy 3 or 6 sets from Schaller or any one of the other US distributors. At that point the switch to the smaller metal post was made.
I seem to recall (could be wrong) that the fat posts make it a different tuning ratio, much less and they can be a bit harder to tune. They're OK for nylon strings since the strings stretch more than steel. |

Amazingly the .370 in. black tuner post reduces the ratio from 16:1 to 10:1 as compared to the .233 in. post on 12 string and later slotheads. I would never had thought the difference was so great. |

Very impressive gallery!
As for the story about Glen buying the guitar for Brian Ahern...there is no reason to doubt the story, Brian is a very respected music producer and would not likely have any reason to lie about it...and you're getting it directly from Brian so the story is pretty much straight from the source, as it were.
Glen has always been pretty enthusiastic about Ovations and would often buy one for a musician friend or even give them one of his personal guitars. The Emmylou and Johnny Cash connection is very cool, too.
The bottom line is that you got an nice early Adamas in great condition for the cost of a reissue...how can you go wrong? Enjoy!

Thank you very much.I accepted your opinion 99% You said like a lawyer. I checked the story about the legendary producer,Brian Ahern, I am pretty sure the seller would not tell a lie. However I will always love this guitar. Nice to have your information. Enjoy.

Location: Boise, Idaho | I was just kidding, povation. I understood your reference to lawyers as being complimentary, but many of our non-lawyer friends on this site might not agree. I was trying to think of one of the regular posters on this site that you could always take literally, but I couldn't come up with one. You have to assume that most of us are about half full of BS, except when we say you have a great photo gallery. That is 100% true. |
