The Players:

Rock& Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Buddy Guy

BB King

Eric Clapton

Paul Shaffer and backing band
The Setting:
On Stage for Guy's induction into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame, rehearsing Wiilie Dixion's "Let Me Love You, Baby." Keep in mind that BB King is one of Buddy Guys' idols and biggest early influence as was Guy to Eric Clapton...
....and SCENE...
11am Clapton and Guy strumming their guitars are on stage and King seated before a mic. The three are being backed by the Late Show with David Letterman Band, Paul Shaffer, playing organ and directing...
The drummer counts off but, before the band can get rolling, Shaffer is on his feet calling for the musicians to stop, at one point even waving his arms to halt the song to tell BB King he was getting the words wrong...
King replied, "I got what wrong?"
Shaffer, "The words. Read them off the TelePromTer
(the prompter is fifty yards away)
King, "That's too far"
Shaffer, "Well, he's getting the words wrong"
Clapton (annoyed), "The words are whatever he says they are.." |

Location: Cicero, NY | You're both close but I'm not sure either word totally captures the true essence of the annoying little twit. As much as I used to enjoy Letterman, I stopped because I just can't stand Shaffer. And if I hear his Cher imitation one more time I just won't be responsible for the carnage. |

Location: NJ | In Jersey, it's not n'essarlily "safe" to . . ."know somebody" (on either end of the spectrum).
I pretty much "KnowSomebodyThatKnowsSomebody" . . .
. . . it's safer that way ;)
I've got a goodly degree of MusicalRespect for Shaffer (wasn't he in "the band" on the Nat'l.Lampoon's "Lemmings" album?
(FUNNY f@ckin' Album, b/t/w.!
BelushiKills! (PunIntended).
but'I bumped into him(Shaffer) a couple of times in Manhattan, and he just totally comes across as an ArrogantLittleFopp . . . . |
