Very pretty. Wonder if they'd knock off a grand and keep the cabinet? Seriously, this is art, right down to the tuner buttons.

Prof, do you think one grand would be the difference between a deal or no deal for anyone? Seriously, a $35,000 guitar would probably just sit in its expensive little cabinet our of fear of scratching it.

Only $35,000.00!!
I think I'll buy 8-10 "O''s and 4-5 Adamas instead! Oh and I'd still have some pocket money!

Richard, I agree with you. For collectors willing to pay these prices, they're not likely to quibble.

The peghead is ugly.
Ther rest is pretty gaudy, but great workmanship.
If I was going to spend 35 large I'd buy something that will be worth 40 in a couple of years.
This ain't it.

Well, . . in 5 years (their 40thAnniversary), they'll probably be trying to sell 'em for $40K . . .

. . . so, . . . that's . . . almost the same thing . . .

I thought the "purfling" was on the inside holding the top to the bottom, and the "binding" was covering the joint on the outside...?

This is totally for the collector... Kinda like Samurai sword blades...
They buy them for the workmanship with no intention of using them.

The first dent (and you Know that is gonna happen) and there goes your 'value'.

It is kinda pretty... But I've seen better for less.
But it is still just an expensive "Wall Hanging" hence the cabinet.

From the Music Encyclopedia :
Purfling: n. Ornamentation on the border of a thing; specifically, the inlaid border of a musical instrument, as a violin.

The binding covers the outside joint, any additional decoration in the binding (such as wood or abalone inlay) is purfling.

The strip of wood inside to which the top/bottom is glued to the sides is called kerfing, from the woodworking term kerf, which is a narrow cut, usually across the grain, that is almost the full depth of the wood.

All that gaudy stuff - that's what the extra $25K is for.
