Here's a little synopsis I put together for the mpthership... hope it explains the features/benefits!

OP Pro Studio Preamp

The new Op Pro Studio Preamp from Ovation is a substantial leap forward in technology.
This exciting new preamp offers exciting new features not found in any other acoustic guitar electronics!

Based on the Op Pro preamp, the Op Pro studio offers increased gain, three band active eq, a built in compressor, a low frequency exciter and a built in chromatic tuner!

The large button on the left releases the preamp from its housing, allowing quick battery changes.

The tune button engages the chromatic tuner and bypasses the output, allowing the user to tune silently and facilitating open tunings.

The battery low light will flash briefly when a plug is inserted to show power u, the flash when it’s time to change.

The gain controls the overall output volume of the guitar.

The EQ section is active, center detented and can boost or cut the selected frequency.
The low controls the bass. mid controls the midrange and high controls the treble.

The Expressor slider controls a fast attack compressor which works in conjunction with the Drive control which activates a low end (400hz) exciter.

The advantage of these controls to the user:

The expressor is a fast attack, transparent compressor that gives single note soloing more punch and clarity, as well all taming the harsh transients exhibited when strumming hard.
The Drive knob controls a low end exciter that is only engaged when the Expressor is engaged. When soloing, especially on high notes, the drive control give both punch and warmth to the sound,, making the notes seem to explode off the fretboard. The difference with the drive knob engaged is striking! It is recommended to start with the drive knob at twelve o’clock and the expressor slider three quarters of the way up to hear this effect. Adjust to taste.

Is this "studio" preamp the same as the VIP preamp? Does anyone know when this new pre-amp will be available? Any idea on price? Also will I be able to purchase one and just plug it into my 1777LX or are there more details involved?

Thanks

Don't know when we'll be able to buy one, but Rick did say it was a drop in replacement for the OP-Pro.

I can't wait to change the OP-Studio for my OP-Pro. Can anyone tell me how long it takes when something new is available in Europe/Holland;Is there any difference with you in the States, having the factory in your country??

I just got my C2078LX back from the mothership with a OP-Pro Studio in it. Remember what Matt said about this thing? Well, it's all true!! I do have to try in all humility to improve on the destription of two of the controls though:

The "Expessor" slider *should* say "Skinny" at the bottom, and "Fat" at the top.

The "Drive" control should maybe be labelled "Growl" or perhaps "Rumble"and should me marked that it goes to "11".

Hopefully I'll be able to do some side by side comparisom work this weekend if GC doesn't kick me out for making too much noise in the acoustic room :D

Sorry guy's, it doesn't drop into the Op-Pro can. But if you have Kim/John send me your parts, and you all send me your guitars, I'll do the swap for free OK? :p :D :p :D

Noah, I don't think Fred has anything else with an OP-Pro to compare to.

I don't think that Fred has an acoustic amp, so he's going over to the local Guitar Center to use theirs....

SoCal Guys,

We have a golden opportunity before us. I have access to "The Living Room" in Laguna Hills. It has a stage, chairs, furniture, coffee makers, a big fireplace (not that we'd need it this time of year), fridge/coolers, and a GREAT house system. Noah has not one, but two Trace 100C's that we can a/b similar guitars and pre-amps on. Sounds like all the fixin's for the next SoCal OFC get together. Do I need to remind you all that the last time I suggested a made to order get together (seach for OFC Hooligan) NO ONE SHOWED UP!! What do we say boys!? Are we ready for another OFC get together!! :D :D :D :D :D :p

Don't have to worry about batteries going dead... we've got phantom power.

This pre amp came intalled on my C2079LX, but there was not a written word anywhere on it's operation. I had no idea what the drive thing did or that it worked in conjunction with the expressor. Now it makes sense. Thank you, Matt.

So Matt, You gonna fly in for Fred's OP-Pro/OP-Pro Studio cookoff? Where else could you compare a Ute w/OP-Pro Studio to a stock Ute? Or your C2079LX to one with just an OP-Pro?

Fred was obviously wounded when NO ONE SHOWED UP for the Hooligan... come on guys, disappointments like this can effect Fred's development.
