Location: Phoenix AZ | Something is not right here. Fugot bids 755. and then gets outbid (probably damn glad he did). But the same bidder just keeps upping it 1100, 1300, 1800, 2500, 2800. all within three minutes with no other bids. This makes no sense, there must have been a higher bid than 2800 (a shill bid?) and then retracted. The high bid right now should only be 765. to outbid Fugot. Something just ain't right.
Hell, if this thing sells for $2800. I think every person who owns one will put their's on the block immediately ... but I'm not the price police. Let's hope the $2800 is true.

Paul, no...not me. I just sold my "Book" to Dano in Toronto. If this sale stands up at the current price, Dano will be a very very happy camper! |

Just enough to beat the other bidders. So at the end of the auction, you could lose out just because no one else beat the reserve? |

Location: Indiana | I have to disagree. I bought a bass on ebay a few years back and when I went over the reserve, the bid automatically went to the reserve. there were no other bidders. I believe t28 is right ("bidder kept adding to is last bid"). I've done it before. But wow! $2800?

Location: Phoenix AZ | That's not right. Even if you entered a max of $3000. ebay will only bid you up to beat the next highest bidder, UNTIL the auction end and at that time it would take you up to the amount necessary to make the reserve.
The "bug" in ebay (and this is what shill bidders exploit) is that it will bid you up to beat the next highest bidder, but if that next highest bid is retracted it only drops you back down to you last bid just below the shill. hat's why you could get totally screwed if you keep placing higher and higher bids against yourself, which I bet is exactly what this poor person has done.
Will be interesting to see what happens to this one. I've already got mine cleaned up, in the case and ready to sell.

Is that new? It used to be that when you entered your maximum bid you would overtake the highest bidder (assuming you bid high enough) or overtake the reserve bid if your max was over that amount.
I have been using snipe bidding for years now so I'm not aware of any changes in the bidding within the actual Ebay system.

I bid max of $20. and I showed up as the high bidder at $1.00. Then someone else bid $8.00, so ebay raised me to $8.25. Nobody else bid and then at auction close ebay raised me to $10.00 to meet the reserve and I won the auction for $10.00.
The shill problem arises if someone had bid $50. on this auction and I then bid $25, then $30, then $40. The shill retracts his high bid of $50 but ebay only bumps the thing down to my last bid of $40. So I end up winning the auction at $40. instead of the $10, that I should have. This is why you only want to bid a max and don't start rebidding against yourself.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Stephen, I disagree. I entered a bid higher than the reserve and got the posting that said "Congratulations you are the high bidder although the reserve has not yet been met." And than only at auction close it bumped me over the reserve. Maybe I'm dreaming but I sweart that's what happened. Let's get fugot to put that slothead back on ebay so can check out how this really works! Dave |

| ...that's very high price, but a great guitar!!! I will watch it to see which price will be payed at the end. I bought my Book Elite (#512661) in January 2006 on ebay (ebay# 7379942838) in absolutely mint condition at a price of 1110 Euro, that is 1336,01 USD. Everybody had this chance too, just have a look on ebay worldwide!! My Book Elite is one of only four ever delivered in Germany. On some pictures the Book-Elite has a trussrod-cover, other pictures showes it without. Does someone knows the reason?
Best wishes from Germany !! helmut-pl |

I bid on an item a that I determined my maximum bid to be $500 and it elevated me from the starting bid of $49 to the resrever price of $350......at least that is the way I remember it.
I agree about testing it with Fugot's slothead. |
