| Hey Ovation fans! Nice Site! Add me to the list of enthusiasts, I have one of these (looks just like it, anyway)-

Although I must admit my main axe nowadays is an Epiphone hollow body, the Preacher makes regular reappearances in the playing rotation!
I always thought the gtr was made in Japan, but now thanks to the great References section on this site, I think its USA-made. It has an E+5 digit ser. no. (1975-1980, says the guide), but I notice the reference guide says, "This reference is a guide for guitars manufactured in the USA only."
Does the E+5 digit ser. no. on my gtr gurantee that it was made in the USA? Or is it possibly a Japanese model, with this type of ser. no.?
Not looking to sell, just curious!

| Someone a long time ago must have been referring to the Ultra or Celebrity series solid body electrics. They may have said, "All ovation electric guitars are made overseas," and would have been correct from the 80s, onward. |

| Oh, my Preacher is close to this red one, but with more wine/burgandy color, and little woodgrain showing.

| The earlier Preachers and Vipers had the name on pick guard. Newer ones didn't. Also, older bridges on both models had black plastic over a brass body. Newer ones had all metal (but, not necessarily better) bridges. But... there does not appear to be correleation between the pick guard name, and bridge changes. |

When I got it there was an all metal bridge on it, that I didn't think belonged, so I got one of the older style and put on. I wanted it to look like the ones I had seen, but thought the other one sure looked like it was made for Ovation. So thanks for the answer. If I knew how to post pictures I'd show this thing off. It is stock except for the pickups which are UKII. Very nice, Has Les Paul for lunch, and is still hungry!! |

| Interesting, stringinstrument. So far, I have only seen the bridge cavity of the all-metal bridge. Have wondered if the cavity and mount points for the older bridge are the same (but, haven't taken my Preacher apart to find out). I do know that the older bridge requires a hole through the back. Did your white preacher have the hole, or, did you have to make it? And, what horrible thing must have happened to a UKII, for you to get the donor pickups? |

Location: Upper Left USA | The cut of the cavity is the same on all. The only change is the actual post for the bridge.
W2 told us they used up whatever parts were available so the line between this months model and next where not clearly defined. My guess is that pickguards and bridges were contracted out and arrived in a variety of volumes and schedules.
It's the necks that are the coolest part! Everything else is replaceable! |
