Some things happen for a reason...

As some of you know, I recently purchased an '01 Collector from Woz. (Thanks, Woz!!) Unfortunately, it did not like the cross-country trip, and within 2 days of receiving it, the bridge started to pull up from the top in a big way. Even though the guitar left the east coast in great condition, Woz very graciously offered to refund my money and take the guitar back. After a few moments of hesitation -- mostly due to the financial aspects -- I declined the offer and decided to place my faith in the mothership and MasterCard.

Well, just got the estimate in, and as I had suspected, when the bridge pulled, it took enough of the top with it that the top is now firewood. The entire top and bowl have to be replaced.

Now here's the silver lining.. I've always thought.. "man, I love those Redwoods, I just wish they were LX's" .. Well, here's my opportunity! I'm having John LX-ify it as much as possible .. inlaid epaulets, LX bracing, and an OP-Pro with XLR! (Thanks, John!!) When it comes back, it's going to be my ideal guitar. My new motto, "Hybrid cars, and hybrid guitars!" (I drive a Prius.)

The timing may just work out such that you factory tourist-types get to see and play it before I do.

It's all good.

On a related matter... any of you northwesterners got a spare bedroom and broadband? This will surely put me in the doghouse for a while.

Welcome to the doghouse. All I can offer you is a cup of sympathy, and the first one's on me.

I offer a toast: To the doghouse!

As you know, I've got relatives all around you. My folks are just getting back from Arizona, otherwise you could have holed up in there house until the fire died down.
