Hi Gang;

This board has always been great for advice - I wonder if anyone has any tips/suggestions on setting up a Fender Tele and/or pick up installation. I have an American Tele that needs some fret work, and I'd like to install some Texas Special pick ups. My fear is butchering myself versus overpaying a pro to do it.

Thanks!

If you are unsure, it is better to overpay a pro and have it done right, than to butcher your guitar and have to pay a lot more to correct the issues.

I do my own setups and repairs. And for friends at this point. Hope to someday do it for $$$. I am mechanical and have done maintenace work most of my life. When I priced a setup, and figured I had 4 guitars I wanted setup it was cheaper to buy the tools and the book "Guitar Player Repair Guide". It is a greta book. Saying all this is if you are mechanical and can do basic measuring, you could do it yourself. But you really should buy this book, read it through 2X and buy the proper tools. It will cost you a little more than a pro setup, but you will always have the tools and do setups on all your future guitars and friends. Plus it is enjoyable. In fact I have to go finish a setup on a friends acoustic.
