Might as well strike while the iron is hot and before all those who posted in the other thread "next time" forget their commitment!

Some suggestions for OFC CD Vol.4 let me know what you think. Suggest more ...

- Valentines Day
- Guitar Instrumentals
- Singer Songwriter (no multitrack)
- Song Parodies
- etc.

I had suggested the Valentine'sDay, but instead of the sweet, syrup-y, oopie-goopie "LoveSongs, nothing but LoveSongs" we do tunes that may show the darker, more "twisted" side of romance/relationships.

A few years ago, I was booked at a local restaurant/bar t'play Valentine'sDay.

FirstSet(for the DinnerCrowd) was the obligatory, trite LoveSongs.

SecondSet(for the BarCrowd . . . and date-less Losers) was all bizzarre tunes that showed the Dark/Twisted side of romance.

They absolutely LOVED it!!!

I think I may still have the flyer-art that'll work for the cover.

Personally, I like the mix of vocals and instrumentals. Isn't it kinda hard to do an intrumental that would be on a subject??

If you're thinking of a track limit, how 'bout something like no more than 3 or 4. Lets not overcompensate here.

"Dark/Twisted" side of love might be to narrow and restrictive. Maybe open it up to love songs in general like "summertime" was. We can always go the the dark side if so inspired.

Cliff, Jeff,....and a few others  can do the 'twisted' love songs. Each to his/her own.

Too many rules spoils the individuality of the offerings. All we need is a theme/subject.
JMO.

I think Valentines is a good goal/subject.
February is far enough away.....yeah!

What do you mean multi track? Just one instrument and one voice? So Temptation wouldn't qualify then. Or you mean no big multiinstrument orchestrated thing?
Just trying to understand what you mean.

Simple is usually better but a whole cd of that simple would get kinda, something.....
I think you need a little more than that.

The instrumental choice might open the CD's up to many more members. I think there will be a lot of us who can come up with a guitar piece. Might make more work sorting out the choices but you will get a lot of new submitions.

Dave always accepted intrumentals.
I just think it would be a mistake to accept only instrumentals.

An album of original songs, which in some way reference drugs or alcohol.
Examples:
I get a kick out of you --- Cole Porter
American Music --- Violent Femmes
I wanna be sedated --- Ramones
Heroin --- velvet underground
Temptation --- Mauvais Beal

An album of only stringed instruments of the type sold by ovation? No drums, no click tracks, no keyboards ... yes to adamas, ovations, or a similar guitar, or electrics like the vxt, or similar.
You can have as many or as few tracks as you'd like. You can process the sound as much or as little as you'd like.

Just pick a topic and let the originators of the tune do what the hell they want.

Just post a deadline and allow no exceptions.

A deadline will control the multitrack freaks as well as anything.

Doing whatever the hell we want is a good theme;
though working within limitations helps create art.

Having to write your own material was limiting enough. I had been eliminated previously by lack of ability to record anything. Don't go too far or we won't have enough submissions or the submissions will all sound alike. The previous CDs have all been enjoyable for their variety.

Ding ding ding!

We have a winner.

Should be original compositions.

Multitracking should be fine. A whole CD of just singer and guitar is hard to do unless you're really good and let's face it, few of us are of THAT level. And even if you are that good it still gets a little on the boring side.

some instrumentals and some vocals keep it interesting. The mix of stuff on this one is good and it holds your interest.

Love Songs would be good. Both real and twisted and a few instrumentals. It would make good listening. This isn't just an exercise in seeing what everyone can do given a guideline, it should be a CD that is entertaining to listen to when we're done. This one is.

True.
You probably would have added 8 or 9 more tracks if there hadn't been a time limit.

Wasn't trying to be restrictive. Just throwing out ideas maybe to help folks focus a little. We'll let the dust settle and see what happens.

Yeah, just a topic and forget limitations. The beauty of the last CD is that each person contributed his strength, and avoided his/her weaknesses. Restricting instrument types or number of tracks, etc, will just chase people away.

How about a Christmas/Chanukah/Holiday theme?
