Has anyone played the 1680? Are they for sale yet? How do they sound compare to the UTE? (They appear similar to the UTE in specs.)

I Played (the) one a bit at NAMM. Very similar to the U681T. I loved the oiled walnut neck. Also, it has the VIP pre-amp. Ask Al when they are shipping

As to the neck, agree with Fred. Hard to tell with all of the background noise at NAMM. However, there is a distinct difference between the textured top and the cross weave in the CVT's.

Also, the price...have seen the 1680 listed at $3,599 and offered for about $2,499. Not sure if they are available.

Best to check with Al on his price and availability.

Compared to the U681, I didn't care for the neck on the 1680, nor the finish or epaulets. Just seemed a lot cheaper looking than the U681. I couldn't tell anything about the sound, I'm sure it's probably very nice. You're paying a lot for the electronics. I wish they would offer an acoustic-only version of guitars at a reduced price. I had to pay EXTRA to get my U681 as an acoustic only. Dave
