Does anyone know Kaki Kings father I know he has wrote to this page before.I just seen her on the Laguitara in Rochester New York and the show was so good that I can't stop thinking about it.But one thing was wrong.Kaki seemed very down. She was talking about she had finished her new cd but her record company sony had dropped her and she didn't know what label it would be on.She also said that her father did not like the cd.Her father should support her in all of what she does.Kaki is a one of a kind person and she should have her fathers support. If anyone knows him please tell him to support his daughter.
Thanks,Jworden

Just my 2 cents, but the relationship between Kaki and Dave is nobody's business but their own.

I find this very hard to believe. From what I've read on these pages, I don't think that Kaki could have a more proud and supportive dad.

Popcritic(Kaki's dad) has always shown tremedous support fro kaki in this board. He's always posted concert info and if I'm not mistaken he made mention that the Sony deal was over,he made mention that the next release would be made with an independant label. It would be hard for me to fathom that the relationship is sour.he has always played the role of proud suppotive papa!

Hey Kiki and her Dad........ Rock on!!!!!!!!!
There ain't one little thing this girl does that her Dad and all of us do not support! Of this I am sure. I am glad you enjoyed the concert. I have yet to see her. I have heard very good things and ...no... what I hear does not all come from her Dad!
I wish this Kid all the luck man...... An international Solo act is some kind-a dream for a lot of us lesser musicians.
And if "Sony" drops the ball,...... there will be other companies to pick up the slack. These record Exec's don't know their proverbial Ass holes from their pie holes, there is so much "crap" flowing out of both.. All they do is crunch numbers and project trends. They'd be better off hiring a witch and a crystal ball.
That's my $.02

Well being a father of two daughters If they did something i disaproved of I would still love and support them. And I will do this till the day I die.
So I am sure Kakis' dad would do the same.

Anyway, there's a big difference between someone not liking an artist's new CD (which may or may not be the case) and somebody no longer supporting or loving someone.
It makes me sick that someone as good as Kaki even has to start shopping her CD around because it has been deemed to not be as "commercially viable" as Kevin Federline's Popozow (or whatever).

Same here. 2 daughters. They don't always do everything the way we like, but there's nothing like a father's pride in his kids.

Well, I think it's safe to say that Jworden doesn't know me like you guys do!

Since I assume Jworden to be legit, let me welcome you to the one and only OFC, and I hope you will post here often. There is much diversity among the membership, but we are all bound by our shared interest in Ovation and their wonderful guitars.

In the course of her live shows, Kaki can usually be counted on to say something provocative, and apparently Rochester was no exception. I'm actually flattered that she would mention the old man at all!

She had sent me a working demo, without mastering and final mixing. To say that "I didn't like it" would be an exaggeration--it was actually that I had more suggestions than she expected, that's all. As a rule, I don't participate in her career decisions, but you know me well enough to know that I'll give my opinion if it is asked for.

Kaki is certain that she can always count on the love and support of her family. In a matter of artistic sensibilities, I'm sure we both have surprised each other many times, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words in this thread.

Best regards--

Dave King

Life would be really boring if our kids agreed with everything we said and vice versa. I'd feel the same way, Dave, just flattered that she mentioned you in front of the audience. If the kid doesn't value Dad's opinion, she wouldn't ask for it.

Popcritic... Just wanted to say thanks for the dvd's you sent me in the past. That is a great example of how good natured the majority of OFC'ers are, especially Dave! (By the way, if anyone hasn't heard Kaki play, it is definitely a treat for the ears!)

You're a class act, Mr. King.

(Kaki is still not returning my calls... not mention all the letters... or the sky writing... or the singing telegram by the guy in the monkey suit... or the pleas from my parole officer...)

One of my ungrateful little wenches, after putting herself through college with scholarships, working, getting a B one time in her life (yes the rest were As), and getting a job, had the audacity to buy an Ibanez. She didn't consult me (or ask for money). I am so embarassed. At least Kaki has an Adamas.

And yet another side effect of Fame is when the media gets bored with your normal life and has to "dress it up" a bit!

I hope she never makes it to the supermarket Checkout Isle. The competition there is pretty tough - probably no room!

Jeff, you are a parent's worst nightmare. :D

And I mean that in a nice way!

A kind and eloquent response.
I am very likely a bit biased since enjoy Kaki’s music.
It should be clear to anyone who reads this forum that you are indeed a supportive family. The very fact that Kaki would send you a working demo for your feedback makes a clear statement that there is a very high degree of trust, honesty, and understanding between the two of you. Allow me to echo Jeff W; You’re a class act, Mr. King.

Dave, you have always sounded like a very proud and supportive Dad in your posting here. I would find it hard to believe otherwise. We are always happy to hear from you.

I'm sure Kaki will have continued success and will continue to grow as an artist. I can't wait to hear her next CD.

Thanks, Bob. That was interesting. Nice to see a dad's concern turn into a real success story.

It's nice to be in a club where uninquiring minds don't wanna know. I appreciate that we have a bunch of grownups here. You wouldn't believe it, but my other MB, The Olsen Twins Chat-it-up, doesn't behave nearly as well.

Quote of the decade:

"Actually, I think eventually she may well become known to the folks at Ovation. They don't know anything about her yet, and I wouldn't expect them to--after all she's only 23."

You can't make this stuff up. The real thing is so much better!

Yeah, she must have been all of 24 by the time I first heard of her, as the featured artist on the Ovation website. Lots better than Nikki Sixx.
