Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | If he doesn't settle for much less than his B-I-N price, it will have to. New street price was $1400. Although one did sell on a blow-out at my local GC for $700.
Interesting that he posted the total production number of the 2005-ES(total production 582), which I didn't know. Mine is 388, which is EXACTLY 2/3rds of the way through the run. The highest number that I was aware of was 467. Guess there wasn't enough orders to make the 750 or so that was the standard number in the past few years.

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Here's the relisted auction . Is it just me, or is the 05 Collectors a bit more "understated" than some of the ones in the past? I know it's been ten years ago since I fell for the '95 collectors, but it seems like this one has a lot less "bling for the buck" than they usually use. |

sure looks nice on the same wall with the 1984 Collectors, Custom Elite, Millennium, an Adamas II 1681, four Adamas I 1687's (one is the reissue), the Adamas I 12-str 1688, and an Adamas II 12-str 1685. (not bragging but, with the upload utility down).
it holds its own...and plays so well. |

I think it's one of the nicest looking guitars in the Ovation range. It's got plenty of 'bling' up close, but its not 'in yer face' bling. I was gonna buy an Al Di Meola in Natural (the black was too 'fancy' for me) before the new contour body '05 was revealed. I actually hate the fancy Adamas thingys that everyone seems to drool over. Must be an American thing ;) I like subtle. |

I think with the '05 Ovation finally wised up and said "screw all this blimg bling stuff, let's make something that actuallu sounds good." So they went to work on two very important factors - the top (engleman spruce) and the bowl (contour). They took the great LX neck and top shelf OP-Pro electronics. They did just "enough" with the cosmetics. I mean, check out the GRAINED ivoroid binding. That crap is beautiful. And the inlaid abalone rosette. Overall I think one of the best balance of form and function they have done in a long time. If you HAD to pick what it was based on, I guess I'd say Contour Bowl Legend LX. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The Collector's editions focused on looks or the latest electronics for many years rather than the sound from the unplugged guitar. It wasn't a bad concept to try something different that might or might not go into the next generation guitars. With the contour bowl and LX, the 05 was an appropriate vehicle for the new concepts. I wish I could find one so I could see how it feels and sounds. |

I disliked the 2005-ES when I first saw the picture that Al posted. I thought it was a case of "nothing special, so who cares?" I believed the deep contour bowl was PR. Then when I finally got the chance to PLAY one at our local GC, I sold another guitar hurriedly (a Larrivee parlor) to buy it!!!! It is THAT good.
As I've noted before....it is fantastic with new strings. If you play one with strings over two weeks old, you will NOT be as impressed. Not sure why, but that is my observation. The sound goes down in quality more than mid-bowl LX Os with string age.

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada | I picked up a 2005 Collector's in a shop a year ago, played it about 2 minutes, gave it to the sales guy and said "get the case and write it up". I never plugged it in. No point. Anything that sounds that good unplugged is sure to sound good plugged in. (I sold my Ovations years ago and just wanted to get one again and how fortunate that it was this one). It truly sounds fantastic as an acoustic only. Rivals several of these rosewood dreadnaughts that I have. Got me excited about Ovations again. I have added 2 more since and am looking for more........... |

He liked my U681T and a a few bucks to spend on a new accoustic. we started looking a legends and balladers, (he wasn't crazy about the multi holes) LX models and others. what got him though was the contour bowl. It's a very playable, very nice sounding guitar. Defineatley a bargain even for what you get. |

Roger Have you tried coated strings? I use D'Addario EXP's on my 1881, and they last a LOT longer than the others I have tried. I used to use them as well on my 1869, and it was amazing the difference in how clean and crisp it sounded with the coated strings. |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Yes....I use D'Addario EXP lights on my 2005-ES. It sounds even more amazing with the EXPs. But remember that the non-wound strings are NOT coated. Sometimes I change the uncoated strings ONLY after 3-4 weeks with EXPs. It keeps the sound better longer.
