I had to take a 1669 CL in to get some fret work so I took the 47RI in for "show and tell" to Moze Guitar in La Mesa. Also had Rudy, who was doing a group for me, give his attendees a longer lunch break and join me. Yes, # 3 had a great reception. And, eventually, Rudy got a chance ;)

Is anyone going to have a 47RI at the Tour? I've love to compare it to the original. Dave

You would think that the factory would have at least one completed that hadn't shipped out to a dealer yet.

It was very cool of Tony to let me play his 47RI and borrow, just for fun, his 1687RI. I didn't get in last night until late and didn't have a chance to post.

After playing the 47RI and remembering #47 from the tour last year (there's a pic of me plaing it later in the calender), the center area of the soundboard is too dark. Oh well.... that's my only critisizim (sp?).

Guys, if this guitar had a p/u in it, then it would be the guitar for which you'd sell everything to buy. The sound is big and open, yet deep. It plays well and the neck feels great. But that sound... wow!

I played it back and forth with a U681 and the 1687RI, and in order of what I liked best, it was the 47RI, the 1687RI and then the U681 (just can't seem to bond with that guitar). The 47 sounded very much like the 1687 but more open and light. You could play the 47 next to any other make of guitar and smile as people's jaws dropped.

With a p/u and in blue, let's see, what could I sell to afford it ... Preacher 12, 1537, 87C, GC 12, Viper ..............

Oh, and one last thing... the label on Tony's 1687RI reads "1688". Isn't that the 12 string Adamas I?

Great review Moody.

It seems the 47RI is living up to expectations tone wise.

I'd be interested to know how you thought the weight compared with the 1687.

I know I'm a ways down the list but I'm can't wait to get my paws on mine. Good things are worth waiting for.

Richard, the 47RI is extremly light weight. You can really tell the difference next to a 1687. It doesn't have a KBar in the neck and no electronics.

And Mark, I don't own a U681. I'm about the only person on the board who isn't in love with them.

Ouch Paul...I love my wife, I really like my Harley, but I enjoy my guitars.
I'm sure between my ute and Fudd, I enjoy their company equally :D
Just waiting for that bitch 1187 to move in and screw the whole relationship up!

Paul, I'm sure you appreciate my decision to go for Mike's 87 Collector's then and forego the Ute for awhile. I'm still lacking an Adamas and I feel incomplete. I like 12 fret guitars and liked Dave's Ute. I may be the only OFC member who's not in love with the FD14, so there!

I stopped by the factory today to drop off #220 for testing. It was the one we used as the sound standard for the Moosup years (78 to 82). All Adamii were compared to this when sound tested.

There were two 47s there. I played one, an E chord with a heavy pick, one strum. It's got it.

Actually they both have it. Compared to 220, yes, they pass. Those going by there next week are welcome to try 220 and the others. Cliff, I'd be interested in comparing 220 to 54 if you bring it.

As far as the rest about the 47RI guitars they are not like the originals. They are better. They are worth the asking price. An original slothead is crude in comparison, they can get away with it since they're the original and 30 years old and easily worth the 10K+ that they bring. A new guitar with that quality level would never fly. There are $500 Chineese guitars with better cosmetic quality. They play well (although the neck is too narrow, but I'm told that's a personal problem) and are nice and light. And just acoustic, it's great. Definately a benchmark guitar.

Well, hard to top your recommendation.

Not many have played the 47RI, far less have even seen it.

As far as I know (other than Bill and Al) - Noel, mayself, Rudy, co-owner of Moze Guitars, and Moody. I am sure they all agree...if you can, do it!

By the way, want a low s/n? Better talk to Al now, not later.

Although I need to break into the Adamas line, this would be a head on crash. I'd have to agree with my wife on this one. I'm not worthy of that guitar.

Disagree...anyone who appreciates a great instrument deserves one.

Kind of like cars, may not be the greatest driver or mechanic but...

Granted, there is the cost, that is understandable. Not deserving...sounds like low self esteem. :p

Mantra for the day: I am worthy, I am worthy, I am worthy...

Bad analogy for a lawyer with a Porsche, Tony. I'm not worthy of the car either, but I know lots worse drivers. I can't think of a lawyer with low self esteem.
I agree everyone who appreciates quality deserves one. I just think I'll leave them for better players. My golf game sucks, too, and I know that better clubs won't help. I just need to play more. Same for the 47. It sounds like it's worth every penny. I just need to play more. Right now, I'm going golfing.

Well, truth be told (IMHO) that if they offered a 47RI in the tour drawing, whoever won wouldn't turn it down. He or she would be "worthy".

Bill's endorsement means alot to me.

I'm someone who's had to scrimp and save to be able to get one, it's comforting to know from the horses mouth that they're really that good.

It'll certainly be a guitar to last a lifetime.

Frankly it suprised me. It was that good. And I don't suprise easily.

The good news in that is that since they figured out how to make this work here, they can do it again somewhere else for those that don't go for this guitar. Still, if you can do it, go for it.

Mark, Better clubs always make you look like a better golfer. Get your name put on the bag too.

?? Anything wrong with:

1187-247 Adamas #47 Slot Head Reissue
#47 has been regarded throughout Ovation's history as being one of hte best, if not the best, Adamas guitars ever made.

Adamas site

Of course, dealers around the world have block copied the error onto their websites. :p :p

I'm not sure that it's the right post to make that kind of announcement???

I will be soon the lucky and proud owner of a Slothead #47RI.
It was my greatest wish since 20 years and that dream will become a reality.
I don't know if you can imagine what it can be for a fan like me???
I'm not a great guitarist but I like so much Ovation.

Please, hurry up Mr Postman!!!

I understand completely Jerome, Al shipped out (#9) to me yesterday(Saturday) :D :D :D
I am extremely fortunate that Al order as many as he did because my local rep messed up my order from back in January.

Congrats jerome...You will love it.

Tim, Congrats as well. My local dealer told me the 1187 was going to be delayed because they ran out of the wood tops. After much double checking to make sure I was actually on the list, I was told it would be in August. (I think they got the "there is no more koa tops" mixed up with the 1187.
Anyways, I was lucky enough to do bizness with the worlds worst salesman and received s/n 8. Unfortunately, free time has been rare here the last week. The few moments I have played #8, I have been floored. It is an amazing sound machine. full sounding, and clear. Very light weight, perfect craftmanship. ...sounds just as sweet as the #42 slothead. (ok, that hurt).
latest word is production is limited to 75. Certificate of authenticity says all four anniversary models will be limited to less then 400 models total. for what it's worth. peace, mike

So, we know where 3, 5, 7, 9, and 10 are...well, we know 7 was at the German show and then in Paris waiting for the buyer to pick up.

Those on the tour, what numbers are you getting to check out?

Any others out there?

I believe Fugot has #8 and Al had #11 still for sale as of last Saturday.

Man, what a great guitar...If I could change one thing though, it would be for a wide neck.
I've really got spoiled on the Ute & Fudd with my fat fingers.

Are any of the 47RI's going out with electronics, or are they all straight acoustics?

Did you heard my cries today Stephen??? :D

My #47 has finally arrived this morning.
I took my car to CDG/Paris airport to bring it back home this afternoon.
I already knows that it's a great looking guitar but now, I can tell you that the sound is purely amazing.

I'd like to thank officialy Alpep for his kindness.
"Merci Monsieur Alex!!!"

I've made some pics this evening but they're not very good: 1187-247 #10

I will try to take better photos tomorrow if the sun is above Paris.

Yes, I did hear your cries of joy....I just thought it was thunder at the time from a storm.
