Location: Peoria, Illinois | I decided to take the plunge on the re-issue 1618 Glen Campbell 12er. I would assume that these are not going to be available for too long a period of time. I just had to try one and it will be my first slothead 12. Anyone out there that can tell me what to expect? |

Location: Central Florida | I can't speak directly to the reiisues, but the originals are very special guitars. I'm sure you're going to be quite pleased. Please submit a full review here when you get it, and if possible include some pics. Congratulations, Jim! :) |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I have an 1118 GC 12-string, 1981 vintage. It sounds absolutely wonderful, but it is 12-frets-to-the-body, which means if you are used to 14, the neck feels a bit "short". Also, you're in for a "wonderful" experience changing strings on a slothead 12-string. Takes me around 4 hours from start to finish(takes me 30 minutes on a regular 6-string).

I am prepared for a struggle with the string change, and hope to be able to do it in under 4 hours!! Will keep you posted on that. I should have it by the middle of next week.
I played one other 12-fret model, and I agree that the neck felt "short". Hope I can adjust to it.
I feel compelled to check out this instrument. Once they finish the model run (when might that be?), I do not want to have to rely on the secondary market to secure one.
Will post again once it is in my hands.... |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Jim, I shouldn't have sounded so negative. For most people, the great sound is worth it. It sounds like no other 12-string I've ever played. It's just that the short neck and string-changing difficulty sours an otherwise sweet guitar for me, personally, and I wanted you to at least be aware of those "features". Best of luck with your 1618.
I suppose if I changed strings on it more, I'd get it down to a couple of hours.... :D

Location: Warren,Pa. | I have a '79 Pacemaker, and I have to say changing the strings is a therapeutic pleasure for me. When a 12 string slothead is strung up properly...lots of string on the posts, wound toward the outside...I think the finished product is a work of art. I've had people who know nothing about guitars stare and make flattering comments about the headstock. I must say I do use Elixers so I do go a lot longer between changes, but this is all part of owning an extraordinary guitar. Enjoy your amazing guitar. John <>{ |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | I use D'Addario EXP coated strings on my 1118, very definitely, but one must remember that 5 of the 12 strings, EXP or Elixirs, are not coated, so they will "die" just as quickly as a regular set.
Yes, I completely agree about the headstock, it is a work of art. What takes some of the time changing strings is carefully minding the string ends to not scratch the inside of the slots.

Location: CT | I've always wanted a CL slothead to go w/ my 1619-4. I was eyeing this, but didn't want my wife to kill me. Are any of you guys the new lucky owner? http://cgi.ebay.com/1981-Ovation-Custom-Legend-12-String-Acoustic-E... |

Location: Peoria, Illinois | I will post a review of this guitar soon. I am just getting to play it after a string change and some adjustments. So far, I like it a lot. A few "issues" I will discuss in the review.
Now I can appreciate why a 12-string slot head string change can be a major task. My next one will go a lot easier. |
