Interesting too how he influnced ovation pups. I remember seeing him play a country artist too, though I don't think that was his main axe. |

Sorry to see him go.
In other sad news, Don LaFontaine died yesterday, as well.
He's the voiceover guy you all know and love from all the movie trailers... "In a world, where blah blah"... |

| Not being a big country fan, I do have to say ya had to love this guy no matter what your preference. He was funny and he was a truly natural entertainer, it was fun to watch him and he really did look like he loved every minute of life. A Good musician as well. All the icons are leaving us. |

Location: SoCal | You know, he really hadn't played any guitar for a few years. His health was bad. You just hate to a hero go, especially at a young age. He was only 71. Man, he played great guitar and composed great tunes for the guitar. Very much so an original. All the great fingerpickers you see today owe so much to him.... |

Then Elvis said he wanted Jerry to turn over the rights to the song to him (Elvis) because Elvis was famous. Jerry said, "Well you might not know it yet sonny, but I'm famous too." and walked out. I like that. |

Great story Mike. Jerry has been a vocal advocate for our service people. He was recently presented with an armed services award and it meant so much to him he said he was going to move aside one of his Grammy's to display it prominantly.
Very sad to see him go. Like Roger, there won't be another like him. |

Tragic news for sure, although if he was that ill, it may be a blessing for him and his family. I hope his passing was gentle.
Extremly talented and such a "character" to watch. I don't recall ever seeing him perform where he didn't bring on a smile at some point. Usually the grin lasted long after he was done.
Another icon gone. |

I like that. I don't really want to call your customer out on this, but, XM radio has been playing Bill Anderson's interviews with Jerry Reed for the past few weeks now. Reed talks about his only encounter with Elvis during Elvis' recording of Reed's "Guitar Man". One of the recording engineers told Elvis to ask Reed if Reed had any other songs. Reed played Elvis one and Elvis bought it on the spot. Reed said Elvis was very generous, and they had a great time in the studio. Anderson asked if Reed was a friend of Elvis', and Reed said that was the only time he spent with Elvis.
Reed did say that God made a couple of mistakes when God gave Elvis the face Reed was supposed to get and God gave Chet the hands Reed was supposed to get. A little Jerry Reed humor poking fun at himself. |
