Location: london | Hi,
I got a Ovation 'Classic' 1713..strung with nylon strings, great. I'm curious though, would the neck hold steel strings if I put them on there?
Any help appreciated. |

Location: SoCal | Don't put steel strings on it. It's built and braced for nylon strings only..... |

Location: Scotland | Compared to conventional nylon string guitars Ovation classics are pretty robust, plus they have an adjustable neck rod. While I agree that using regular steel strings is not a good idea, they'll take silk and steel without a problem. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | You could put an electric 10 set or try some of the GHS gypsey strings, either the 10 or 11 set.
I'd personally go for the Gypseys. |

Location: Orange County, California | John Pearse Thomastics are low tension, and emulate steel string pretty well. They were designed for antique parlor guitars. The trebles are nylon wound over a steel rope core, and the basses are silver plated broze over a filament core. They have silk wound leaders making them OK for classical tuners and bridges. I played them on my 1763 until I decided to get a "real" steel string. they sounded great!! I got mine from LNR Music . Lou's a pretty nice guy. |
