Unfortunately, what most of us percieve as "slave labor," in many places around the world is truly considered a fine job in good conditions. I'm not saying slave labor doesn't happen, but it's more likely to happen in smaller companies than big ones like Apple. |

Location: Warren,Pa. | My wife&I had this "big picture" conversation this morning at bkfst....as it relates to guitars:
In the '70's, Japan got the work...until their std of living went up a little. Then, Korea & Indonesia...until their wages rose. Now it's China. As this goes around the globe, our std of living will go down while other countries' will rise. In the end, any country will be able to compete because wages will be similar,BUT...we won't be living like we live now and Ovation Conn. won't be paying $15/hr+health benefits to build guitars. I don't know how long this will all take, but at this moment in history we're all caught in the middle of the transition.
Don't let this get you down...there are a lot of things to be thankful for in this life. Just don't make your life all about the "treasures of this world." Hold on to your stuff loosly. John <>{ |

As Miles said, what is perceived as slave labor by Western standards ain't necessarily so.
And if you want to crusade against companies reaping huge unwarranted profits, try looking at why inkjet cartridges cost $30-$35... |
