OK Ladies and Gentlemen - let the bidding frenzy begin. A gorgeous 1687-2, looks pretty minty, seems to be a reputable person, oh my ...

Wow! That looks like the exact model that Alex Lifeson (of Rush) used back in the eighties. I'll have to keep my eye on this one. There's no reserve, so it might go at a good price. It's a beauty!

I'm sure it's not gonna go for a bargain-basement price. I don't imagine there's a more sought-after guitar these days.

Long way from current bidding to the end sales price - assuming that additional questions don't indicate damage. Number of bidders will drop out and probably several serious bidders that haven't bid yet will step in.

Market is screwy right now but a nice 1687 w/OP-24 should sell for at least $2,000 and probably at least $2,200.

Why screwy? First of all, eBay prices for any of the upper end guitars are all over the spectrum. And, the 1687RI presented an ability to buy a new, w/warrenty, two-knobber for $2,100-2,200. Scary to buy a guitar that you haven't seen and played. A new (old style) guitar takes a lot of the risk out of the purchase. Heck, even the 1681 Adamas II reissue was $2,100-2,200.

In fact, I felt I got a good deal on a 1687-7 (yr 1987) for $1,852 May '04. These are the seller's pictures before going back to the factory for TLC.

Not that I think for a second that I'll walk away with this one...just thought the color goes really well against the 1187's and they would look good alongside each other on the wall.
I figure $2K is probably about right on this one, but I don't have that much spending change right now.

Hi-

I'm mostly a lurker here, but I do have a fair amount of eBay experience. I don't have an excuse to buy another guitar so I'm not going to be a bidder on this one. I don't know anything about the guitar or the seller.

Do you guys really consider a seller with 97.1% positive feedback a good risk? I usually get suspicious below about 98.5%, below 99% if they've had a lot of transactions. People try hard to avoid getting retaliatory negative feedback, so lots of potentially negative or neutral feedback is never left.

Requiring a USPS money order for an expensive item might mean that the seller is concerned about getting ripped off, or it might be that they want to make sure that you have no recourse if there's a problem.

Again, I don't know the seller and hope that it will be a smooth transaction for the winner.

It's funny that the last negative feedback was from the same person that had the last transaction from him and left a positive feedback.

I read the negatives and see what transpired more than worrying what a persons overall rating is. I normally establish email correspindence for high dollar items before I commit to the transaction.

"Do you guys really consider a seller with 97.1% positive feedback a good risk?" ...

The only negative fedback I have received is by sellers who I have left negative feedback for. I find it amazing how someone can obviously try to screw you over and THEN expect you just take it without saying anything. Anyway ... to answer your question (like Tim said), you really need to read the actual feedbacks from the buyer AND seller.

I look for clues that they are real people. Anyone with over 500 feedback is bound to have some off periods.

For the big money issues its good to connect via phone and ask a few of th=ose questions.

I have a Nuetral feedback because of a Newbie that was afraid to ask a question.

The toolhaus.org negative/neutral feedback tool helps me make a judgement:

Sure, anyone can make a mistake or two, but it's not unusual to see sellers with hundreds or thousands of transactions and no negs.

If the seller's feedback doesn't look good, I pass on the item even if I really, really want it. I don't think I'm clever enough to detect a problem seller via email or phone. If the feedback is OK and the item is expensive, I'll send an email or two just to make sure the seller is responsive.

Again, I don't know anything about the guitar or the seller. Good luck to the winning bidder.

What it is worth? May not be considered the favorite color of some but with the 47RI, red is the "in" color this year.

C'mon...assuming that the guitar was in the condition the seller said in an email, the guitar was well worth close to (or over)$2K. Some might discount it because it doesn't have the two-knobber pre-amp but there are others that would prefer the newer pre-amp.

Whoever bought it got a great deal.

Unfortunately, I had to let my bid stand as I had to leave about 1/2 hour before it closed.

This was a good price. Sure wish when I was in the market for an Adamas 1 I found this one. I really am becoming partial to that red. I think it was the shallow body Adamas Stephen28 had up for sale a while back the more I looked at it the more I had to have it!!

Nice guitar, to whom ever bought it; ....Enjoy

Saying "what is was worth" was probably the wrong wording.....more like the current going rate.

Yeah....I think at 2K it is still a deal.

It will be interesting where the 1187-2 (mod) ends up...

As to Paul's comments, the problem with the first auction is that I had no commitment to pay fair dollar...heck, I have four 1687's now (two are on short-term loan)...maybe good that I wasn't at the end, might have bid more that I planned
