Been an owner of a white Breadwinner since 1988 - that guitar I had been searching for about two years before I found one. My love of Ovation Solids is beyond anything else and as a professional musician I've been using my Bread as my main guitar for about 17 years now! A few years later I was able to find a Deacon 6 in brown burst and just a few days ago I managed to finally score a Magnum II bass in excellent condition - brown burst model also.
Here are my Solid 6's ...
After doing allot of online research I have managed to find a couple of places like pickguard heaven that will replace the cracked guards on my Deacon and Magnum II. I also managed to track down the schematics for the Magnum II as some previous owner tried to modify the Mag II with another switch to toggle between active and passive sound. The sliders are missing the caps that paired them into a three group and they are making terrible noise when moved and are very gunky and stiff.
I have a couple of options - try and get a friend to see if they can clean up the Mag II eq sliders and get them quiet again along with a new pick guard and keep it stock - or modify the Mag II into a Mag I - order a Mag 1 pick guard ( I have found some other tone and vol knobs online that look almost identical to the single vol pot on my Mag II to make up the extras for a Mag 1 impression ) and have it wired to basically be a Magnum 1. Question then, does anybody have a wiring schematic for a Magnum 1 anywhere?
Thanks all --- suggestions apreciated!
Best, Simon. |

Location: Sydney | Thanks mate, just what the doctor ordered though they are more exploded parts rather than electronics schematics. If you have any knowledge on other places to source replica tone or vol knobs to match the Magnums or Breadinners that would be great also.

They are metallic dots of various sizes that you stick on the body of electric guitars. They improve the sustain and by playing around with the placement of the different sized dots you can "tune" the tone characteristic of the guitar. I think he had to take them off the market when people started complaining that the adhesive was making them dizzy.

Dave My friend, Andy, dropped some bad POWERDOTS during a TaJ Mahal show. He saw death that night....
......and he Pissed-Me-OFF cause, I missed Taj's second set while trying to convince him not to break his skull against the tile in the Men's Room. |

What color p/g you looking for? They are adhesive reflective mylar ... they shimmer and reflect light back into the audience during the show blinding them with a dazzling brilliance - it ensures that my gigs are always cooler since people are forced to wear sun glasses.
As to pick guard looking for the standard black play on white border for the both my Magnum and Deacon. Thanks for the welcome. |

1) Remember the all-chrome Deacon that sold on eBay a couple years ago, with the pac-man shaped headstock? I wish I'd saved a pic of that.
2) Saw Queen and Thin Lizzie in '79. Phil Lynott (sp?) seemed to take great joy in reflecting the spots into the eyes of the fans. Many returned his kindness with obscene gestures.
3) Remember Quay Lewd's mirror "Q" guitar?
Welcome, Tiki! |

In fact Knuckledragger, Old Applause Owner and I were talking about having seen them in the now infamous "Boost Your Post Count" thread, after I copied in the lyrics from "What Do You Want From Life". Today, I can't really see myself performing "White Punks on Dope", though. |

Thanks, Simon. |

If I had a need for solid-bodies, those would be the ones I'd look for.
As far as the power dots ... (: I thought they were put on there to be substitutes for the holes on the acoustic ovation guitars. You know ... if you can't have holes, just put on power dots! |

Thanks for the welcome and funnily enough since I have a use for solids those were the exact one's I went looking for ... do we have a connection or what?!!!
As to the power dots ... I think Syd Barrett had the same on his guitar and infact at that time I can imagine he might have thought of them as power dots also!
Any suggestions on my question above RE Bass Case handles?
Best, Simon. |
