Please rate this longneck for it's sheer unamplified projection using 14s (heavy bronze) tuned 2 full steps low (open C) fingerstyled!

I will play capo 2 or 3 most of time but open sometimes. The cutaway eliminates 2 of the largest soundholes. Is it still loud unplugged?

Please make comparisons to other guitars of any make.

Thanks again.

I had a DS768 for awhile, I liked it a lot but I made the mistake of using light gauge strings on it. I kept mine tuned one step down to D. It was a loud and bassy guitar, but I'd don't know that I would say it was louder than the others I had at the time (a 1717 Legend Deep bowl and a Martin D16). But I never really sat down and compared them. I would say that it was probably the loudest of the three, even with light strings. Just looking at the specs of the DS768, if you put mediums or heavy gauge strings on it, it would have to be a pretty loud guitar.

I'm kinda sorry I sold it, and when I have some free fund's I'd like to pick up another. Again it was a mistake to try to use light gauge strings, the extra scale length demands mediums at a minumum. The main reason I like the longneck was to play standard chording at a lower key while staying in my vocal range.

I have made a test. I did not play them really, because what you hear while playing is different to what the audience is hearing. I hung some of my Ovations (the 1581 RI, the Engelman Spruce Elite and others, which I would declare as my loudest ones) beside my Book Longneck, strung with Adamas Lights with a higher action setting. I played the strings, and I could not hear a significant difference.
While playing the Longneck, i have the feeling, it is very loud, maybe louder than the others, but it could be the effect of the deeper bass. This guitar really growls, which maybe gives you the impression of a very loud guitar.
But, after all, I would say it is one of the loudest guitars I have. Very full, very warm sound.
I think, I will try thicker strings very soon, and set the action a little bit lower.
Very good guitar! One of my favourites to play, and I play most of the time unplugged.
Regards, Kurt
