We decided we'd stay home, watch festivities on the National Mall on PBS, and be glad that we live in a country that is strong enough to survive incompetent leadership. |

We've been sitting out on the deck watching all the surrounding towns put on thier displays. In past years we've been able to see close to 50 different displays. This year it's too hazy, can only see a handful. Worked out Star Spangled Banner on the lap steel. It was a nice quiet day. |

Bill and amstphd are right. This country can survive almost anything. If we can survive the Carter and Clinton years, we can survive almost anything...... |

The bait he has chosen is reffered to amoung the pros as the "B.T.D." lure. "BTD" reffering to "Bait The Democrat" . It's an unusually aggressive lure not normaly seen in this competition. The moderators might call a foul on this one. Let's keep an eye on him today and see if he gets any hits on it.

Heads up.... there is the potential here for a fresh OFC political train wreck.
Maybe we do need to have a seperate soapbox section for politics. |

I guess what bugs me is that even on July 4th you can't make a general statement of gratitude about this great country here without someone playing "Lefty / Righty". |

Actually, neither Brian nor I started it, and we both know that we can tease each other and it's not a problem.
I do think what we can all agree on is that this is a great country and we have all been blessed to be able to live in this country. |

If you do it in some parts of Africa, they'll cut off your lips and rape yor wife in front of you. If you do it in North Korea ... well who knows? you just disappear from the face of the earth. Here in the good ole USA you just start an argument.
Gotta' love it. |

Unfortunatly, for whatever reason, these things never turn out to be a thoughtful exchange of ideas between adults. They quickly regress to childish namecalling and innuendo on both sides. Short little jabs and one liners that do a disservice to what might start out as a serious topic of merit. Some of you guys (even those whose side I'm on) remind me of a couple 6 year olds standing face to face on the boarder of their ajoining front yards engaging in game of "OH YEAH???". Rather than reading an intelligent discourse of opinions and ideas I get the image of a little boy stamping his feet and whining about how unfair things are.
And if ya's keep it up I'll fetch me a switch and it's off to the woodshed with the lot of you! |

Opinions are tolerated, nay encouraged, by our government of the people and by the people. While it is convenient to heap praise or condemnation on the President, it's Congress who really run the country. Make sure you spread the blame far and wide, and on both sides of the aisle.
I recently wrote a new song, and while it's not a protest song it seems apt to post the second verse here ...
I'll be all right when your politics change
I'm tired of the labels
I'm tired of the names
You're pushing on the left
You're preaching on the right
I'm stuck here in the middle
But I'm going to be all right
Our 4th was a great one ... the Marine was at home with one of his battle buddies. We spent the late afternoon at our local park eating ribs, beans and coleslaw and then watched the incredible fireworks display our city puts on. The Marines were at first annoyed at how many times the Marine Corps Hymn was played over the PA system (requiring them to stand at attention) and then were somewhat unnerved as the intensity of the fireworks show increased and their brains told them to seek cover.
I'm proud to be an American. Regardless of who is in office. |

There would be lot less stress in the world (and people'd be a HELL of a lot nicer to each other). |

Nope.
With the "Sixth", you get the death penalty. Automatically. No trial. No lawyer. No appeal.

Would that be a 'free play'? Or would someone be consuming their allotment in applying this? |

Would that be a 'free play'? Or would someone be consuming their allotment in applying this? Great question. Is there a Board of some sort that we can run for? Or do we have to live in Joisey and be annointed? Who's got the rulebook here? |
