Location: Townsville, Australia | Am getting this when I pluck it or strum it hard.
It is a piercing noise. Comes fron the bridge area
Have put graphite on saddle and bridge,
Opened it up, checked for anything loose, plucked and held base of bridge. Nothing loose.
It is intonated correctly
Strings are Elixir polyweb custom lights 11 - 52, oh yeah guitar is 1778T OFT
Any suggestions? |

Is it just the b string or does it do it if you play a "b" in the same octave on another string? You might try moving the string over on the saddle a little, or loosen the strings and wiggle the saddle and shims back and forth. That cured it for me once. Likely, it's the shims "buzzing" just a little under the saddle. |

Will check shims as I have taken the 2 thin ones out, and maybe it started after this; might be bit's of dust in there
Haven't noticed a B same octave different string |

Definitely not happening on other B's, up or down a string.
What does cliff harmonic mean |

Location: Townsville, Australia | Well that explains the arcane references I got when I googled (cliff harmonic)
Now that high pitched harmonic; loosened the strings right back, took the pickup and shim out and had a good look at the routed saddle; found a tiny bit of glue or something sitting in the side just below the D string.
Cleaned this out with a very small and sharp chisel and put it all back together; still a little bit of the harmonic, but only about 25% as loud and only on extremely strong action.
Will leave it till the next string change and have a really good look in there. I guess the shim was lifted the tiniest bit and allowed a sympatheticic vibration at just that pitch; remarkable how small a movement and action produces these noises; insects fascinate me for their capacity to make noise from such small spaces and energy levels. So too a lightly strummed or plucked guitar string.
So thanks for all the advice and support, really helps to rule out the various things it might be. |
